In Luke 2, the Presentation of Jesus which also seems to be the Purification of the Virgin Mary (which She indeed, did not really need from theologians I have read)... we read:

Jesus Is Presented in the Temple
22 And when the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”) 24 and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, “a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.” 25

Okay, it's probably footnoted in many versions of the Bible but I found this interesting. We often hear about the book of Leviticus but they cover this issue too:

Leviticus 12 RSVCE - Purification of Women after Childbirth - Bible Gateway

8 And if she cannot afford a lamb, then she shall take two turtledoves or two young pigeons, one for a burnt offering and the other for a sin offering; and the priest shall make atonement for her, and she shall be clean.”
So, the book I read brought this out. We know Mary and Joseph are poor because they offered up the turtledoves (or two young pigeons) who in turn I guess are sacrificed (killed iow, not an appealing thought). Anyway, this was all unknown to me, kudos to those who did know this. I guess, Leviticus sets out a lot of the ceremony of the OT. Deep stuff really.

Any input, discussion etc. is welcomed.

And, and, that's why they are said to be poor (?), because if they were well off, they would have given a lamb as a burnt offering.
