For the most part, my Pastor and I are on the same wave length when it comes to preaching. Believe it or not, he loves to preach for 15-20 minutes, and these are meaty homilies. See, Fr. Francis is from the country of Ghana, and there they are used to preaching for at least for 30 minutes. In addition, Father was also used to moving about and gesturing (it's the culture). If my homily is only 10 minutes (as I was trained to do), he'll tell me afterwards, "Look Deacon, we only have them once a week, you've got to give them something to chew on!" Actually, I am pleased with such encouragement. It is fascinating having a Pastor who wants the parishioners dragging Catholics back to Holy Mass! But I think I'll stay behind the ambo! So my homilies will be at least 15 minutes from now on. Time to light fires!
