Medjugorje Secrets and Prophecy
The Blessed Mother has spoken very specifically about the future during the apparitions at Medjugorje.
One of the most interesting revelations refers to the culmination of the twentieth century. In 1982, Our Lady told
Mirjana: “Excuse me for this but you must realize that Satan exists. One day he appeared before the throne of God
and asked permission to try the Church for one century. This century is under the power of the devil, but when the
secrets confided to you come to pass, his power will be destroyed...”
Pope John Paul II has also commented on the significance of the twentieth century. Not only has he stated
that we are living in the twelfth chapter of the Book of Revelation, but he has said that we are facing the final
confrontation of the Catholic Church. On June 24, 1977 (exactly four years before the Blessed Mother first appeared
in Medjugorje), then Cardinal Karol Wojtyla said, “We find ourselves in the presence of the greatest confrontation
in history, the greatest mankind has ever had to confront. We are facing the final confrontation between the Church
and the Anti-Church, between the Gospel and the Anti-Gospel.”
How will this confrontation end? Our Holy Father tells us that it is related to Fatima in his 1994 book,
Crossing the Threshold of Hope. He writes:
“After my election as Pope, as I became more involved in the problems of the universal Church, I came to have a
similar conviction: on this universal level, if victory comes it will be brought by Mary. Christ will conquer through
her, because He wants the Church’s victories now and in the future to be linked to her.
“I held this conviction even though I did not yet know very much about Fatima. I could see, however, that there was
a certain continuity among La Salette, Lourdes, and Fatima - and, in the distant past, our Polish Jasna Góra.
“And thus we come to May 13, 1981, when I was wounded by gunshots fired in St. Peter’s Square. At first, I did not
pay attention to the fact that the assassination attempt had occurred on the exact anniversary of the day Mary
appeared to the three children at Fatima in Portugal and spoke to them the words that now, at the end of this
century, seem to be close to their fulfillment.”
It is very striking that that the Holy Father would speak of the continuity of Marian apparitions and the
fulfillment of the prophecies of Fatima now, at the end of this century. Then in March of 1984, Pope John Paul II
keyed that fulfillment with Medjugorje! He said, “Medjugorje is the fulfillment and continuation of Fatima.” The
messages of Medjugorje are the culmination of God’s plan.
The messages and prophecies of Medjugorje help all to prepare for the culmination of God’s plan. God
seeks to have Our Lady offer messages and prophecies to bring true peace to the world. The secrets are integral
parts of the path to peace. It is good to know what role the secrets play in the triumph of Mary’s Immaculate Heart,
the key promise of peace from Fatima.
While we have been blessed beyond measure with the special presence of Our Lady in Medjugorje for
eighteen years, the apparitions will end and the secrets will then transpire. Three of the visionaries have received
nine of the secrets and continue to have daily apparitions. The three visionaries who have received ten secrets must
now witness (as the world is called to live) without Our Lady’s visible daily visits.
Father Tomislav Vlasic shared his understanding of information related to the secrets of Medjugorje in a
letter to Pope John Paul II on December 16, 1983. Mirjana had told him that the Blessed Mother revealed to her the
dates on which the different secrets will be realized. Fr. Vlasic summarized:
Before the visible sign is given to mankind, there will be three warnings to the world. The warnings will be in the
form of events on earth. Mirjana will be a witness to them. Ten days before one of the admonitions, Mirjana will
notify a priest of her choice. The witness of Mirjana will be a confirmation of the apparitions and a stimulus for the
conversion of the world.
After the admonitions, the visible sign will appear on the site of the apparitions in Medjugorje for all the people to
see. The sign will be given as a testimony to the apparitions and in order to call people back in faith.
The ninth and tenth secrets are serious. They concern chastisement for the sins of the world. Punishment is
inevitable, for we cannot expect the whole world to be converted. The punishment can be diminished by prayer and
penance, but it cannot be eliminated. Mirjana says that one of the evils that threatened the world, the one contained
in the seventh secret, has been averted thanks to prayer and fasting:
“You have forgotten that through prayer and fasting you can avert wars and suspend the laws of nature.”
After the first admonition, the others will follow in a rather short time. Thus people will have some time for
conversion.
That interval will be a period of grace and conversion. After the visible sign appears, those who are still alive will
have little time for conversion. For that reason, the Blessed Virgin invites us to urgent conversion and
reconciliation.
The invitation to prayer and penance is meant to avert evil and war, but most of all to save souls.
According to Mirjana, the events predicted by the Blessed Virgin are near. By virtue of this experience, Mirjana
proclaims to the world: ‘Convert as quickly as possible. Open your hearts to God.’
Mirjana also had an experience in which Satan appeared under the guise of Our Lady. Mirjana saw what
appeared to be the Blessed Mother but without the accompanying peace from her presence. Suddenly the apparition
transformed into a demonic image and Satan left.
In addition to this basic message, Mirjana related an apparition she had in 1982 which we believe sheds some light
on some aspects of Church history. She spoke of an apparition in which Satan appeared to her. Satan asked
Mirjana to renounce the Madonna and follow him. That way she could be happy in love and in life. He said that
following the Virgin, on the contrary, would only lead to suffering. Mirjana rejected him, and immediately the
Virgin gave her the following message, in substance:
‘Excuse me for this, but you must realize that Satan exists. One day he appeared before the throne of God and
asked permission to submit the Church to a period of trial. God gave him permission to try the Church for one
century. This century is under the power of the devil, but when the secrets confided to you come to pass, his
power will be destroyed. Even now he is beginning to lose his power and has become aggressive. He is
destroying marriages, creating division among priests and is responsible for obsessions and murder. You must
protect yourselves against these things through fasting and prayer, especially community prayer. Carry blessed
objects with you. Put them in your house, and restore the use of holy water.’
Our Lady, the Queen of Peace herself confirmed that she seeks the fulfillment of the secrets of Fatima
through Medjugorje. Medjugorje is the light chosen to inspire God’s and Our Lady’s children to conversion, with
messages like never before in the history of the world. The message of Our Blessed Mother which best embodies the
peace plan for Medjugorje was given on August 25, 1991:
“Dear Children! Today also, I invite you to prayer now as never before when my plan has begun to be realized.
Satan is strong and wants to sweep away the plan of peace and joy, and make you think that my Son is not strong
in His decisions. Therefore, I call all of you, dear children, to pray and to fast still more firmly. I invite you to
renunciation for nine days, so that with your help everything I wanted to realize through the secrets I began in
Fatima may be fulfilled. I call you, dear children, to grasp the importance of my coming and the seriousness of
the situation. I want to reach all souls and present them to God. Therefore, let us pray that everything I have
begun be fully realized. Thank you for having responded to my call.”
In order to realize the fulfillment of Our Lady’s plan, we must grasp the seriousness of the call. The secrets
touch on the reasons why we are called to live the messages now, with a true sense of urgency and love.
It seems that some of the secrets pertain to the whole world while others may concern the visionaries
themselves. Therefore it is not clear if there is an absolute total of only ten secrets or if some different personal
secrets may also have been given to different visionaries.
On January 30, 1991, Ivan was asked about the changes in Eastern Europe and the collapse of the “Iron
Curtain”. He responded, “In seeing the changes occurring there we must conclude that our prayers and fasting
have been effective. But the Blessed Mother pleads with all of us to continue to pray and fast. The changes there
are not finished. We must pray and fast that the changes stabilize.” When asked if he knew anything about the
conversion of Russia, he said, “The real question is not when Russia will convert. We need conversion; the call of
the Blessed Mother here in Medjugorje is to change our hearts. She asks for a change in our person and a change
in society.”
Ivan was also asked if the Blessed Mother wants prayer groups. He noted, “She insists that all people on
earth be in prayer groups.” When asked why, he stated, “She knows what lies ahead.”
Mirjana has been chosen as responsible for the secrets. She knows the day and date of everything. Mirjana
chose Father Petar Ljubicic to reveal the secrets to the world. (He is now close to sixty years old.) Ten days before
the first secret is to be revealed, Father Petar will be given a parchment containing the ten secrets. This parchment
was given to Mirjana by Our Lady. While anyone can see this parchment, it cannot be read by just looking at it.
When Father Petar receives the parchment, he will only be able to read the first secret. During the ten days, Father
Petar is to spend the first seven days in fasting and prayer. Three days before the event takes place, he is to
announce it to the world. We need to pray that he does God’s will (There is some question as to whether he must
reveal the secrets or whether such announcements are up to his discretion.) He says, “Ten days before, I will know
what will happen. Then seven days of prayer and fasting will follow. Three days before I will say what will happen,
how it will happen and where it will happen.” At the proper time, he will be able to see and read the second secret,
and then the third and so on, according to God’s plan and schedule. On October 25, 1985, Our Lady told Mirjana,
“Pray very much for Father Petar, to whom I send a Special Blessing. I am a Mother, that is why I have come.
You must not fear for I am here.”
Janice T. Connell posed the following question to Vicka, “Vicka, you know many secrets concerning future
events. Do the youth of the world have problems connected with those unfolding secrets?” Vicka stated, “The
youth are and will be facing many problems. That is why the Blessed Mother asks us to pray very hard for them.
Satan is actively trying to destroy this planet, the environment and even nature. These actions of Satan bring great
suffering and hardship. Only through prayer and fasting can he be stopped.” “Why, Vicka?” was then asked.
Vicka explained, “Because prayer and fasting open our eyes to truth. Suffering opens our eyes to truth too, but
often by the time the suffering arrives, it is too late to eliminate the cause.”
To Mirjana at Sarajevo on January 28, 1987: “...Concerning the secrets, my children, these are not
known by the people. But when they will learn of them, it will be too late. Return to prayer! There is nothing
more important! I would dearly wish that the Lord would permit me to enlighten you a little more on these
secrets, but the grace which is offered to you is already great enough.” Then on Mirjana’s Birthday apparition on
March 18, 1989, Our Blessed Mother appeared very sad. Such sadness is rare and noteworthy. Our Lady implored
all, “One more time I beseech all of you to pray, to help by your prayers the unbelievers, those who do not have
the grace to experience God in their hearts with a living faith. I do not want to threaten again! My wish is just to
warn you all as a Mother. I beg you for people who do not know about the secrets.... I want to tell you how I
suffer for all because I am the Mother of all.”
Mirjana reminds us: “This apparition is for all people on earth. Each person on earth will have a role to
play as the secrets unfold. Many already know their role in this apparition, as I do. (Mirjana has acknowledged
that her mission will be different later. Now she prays for the conversion of those who have not yet come to know
God’s love.) There will be suffering. Those who follow the Blessed Mother’s messages will know persecution, but
in the end all will be well. The rewards are great. They are worth every bit of persecution and suffering.”
Mirjana was asked in 1991 if the secrets and their unfolding are imminent. She stated: “People should be
prepared now. People should always be prepared. If people would pray more and think less, they would have more
peace.” The call to respond to Our Lady’s plea is urgent for the conversion of every soul.
Mirjana guides us to understand that Satan is particularly aggressive right now because when the first secret
comes to fruition, his power will be broken. Mirjana confirms that Satan has had immense power throughout the
twentieth century. She also explains that Our Lady has said that Satan has never had such power before and he will
never have such power again. As Mirjana explained to Janice Connell, a great cosmic battle is peaking in fury now
for souls. The battle rages between the “seed” (children) of Mary and the “seed” of the serpent (Satan). God the
Father gave Satan one last opportunity to overwhelm the Church in this twentieth century and for some time just
preceding this century. According to Mirjana, there were three things that Satan did not know:
1. The Eternal Father would send Mary, the “woman” of His covenant with His people, throughout the century to
warn, encourage, and mother the souls struggling in this time of great darkness.
2. The Eternal Father would permit such vast amounts of grace in the world as has never before been known in the
history of mankind.
3. The Eternal Father would send chosen souls who would remain faithful no matter what the allure or attack of
Satan.
Michael Brown reports that when Mirjana was asked whether the first secret would be spiritual or physical,
Mirjana said, “It has to be seen. This has to shake us up so the world will start thinking.” The first secret is related
to chastisement and Mirjana has said that it was “not good.” On October 25, 1985 Our Lady showed Mirjana the
first secret. The earth was desolate and the Blessed Mother said: “It is the upheaval of a region of the world. In
the world there are so many sins. What can I do, if you do not help me. Remember that I love you. God does not
have a hard heart. Look around you and see what men do, then you will no longer say that God has a hard
heart. How many people come to church, to the house of God, with respect, a strong faith, and love God? Very
few! Here you have a time of grace and conversion. It is necessary to use it well.”
It is reported in Medjugorje Journal, Mary Speaks to the World that Mirjana’s eyes filled with tears when
she recalled the first admonition [secret] to the world which she has seen in a vision. She asked Our Lady: “Does it
have to be like that?” Our Lady emphasized: “Look at the way the world is living.”
Michael Brown also reports that Mirjana noted that the first secret is “not a catastrophe, but to prove there
is God.” Mirjana added, “The first warning will be self explanatory.” She has said that the first warning would last
“a short time” and that there would be no pre-signal of its arrival. She also said that it would not be visible to the
whole world. Of all her experiences that she has been given through the Blessed Mother, Mirjana has explained that
“seeing the first secret was the worst.”
Mirjana relates that the first two secrets will be warnings to the world, events that will occur before a visible
sign is given to humanity. Mirjana’s chosen priest, Fr. Ljubicic, has said: “All indicates the first secret refers to
Medjugorje - it will take place here. The first two secrets are warnings. We should not call them ‘secrets’; they are
warnings for all of us. Anyone who comes here after that event will convince himself that the Mother of God was
here, that these children were saying the truth. This event will be the evidence.”
The third secret is the permanent sign on Apparition Hill (Podbrdo). To Jelena on April 25, 1983, “Be
converted! It will be too late when the sign comes. Beforehand, several warnings will be given to the world.
Have people hurry to be converted. I need your prayers and your penance.” Jelena shares that Our Lady revealed
that, “For you who have faith, this time constitutes a great opportunity for you to be converted, and to deepen
your faith.” All the visionaries except Jacov have verified that they will be alive when the third secret is given. On
September 4, 1981, the Blessed Mother revealed, “The Sign will be given at the end of the apparitions.”
Mirjana has forecasted that, “...the time of purification will end with the third warning, that is to say, with
the visible sign to the world. When the sign appears, no one will any longer doubt that God truly exists”, but if the
world is not converted, disaster will follow. Mirjana continues, “But it will be too late for many to convert. The
encounter with divine reality will be catastrophic for those who have not already turned toward God. But for those
who have done so, it will be a time of great joy.” It will be a great gift to those who have opened their hearts. The
third secret, the permanent sign on Podbrdo, cannot open hearts and make people believe. Knowing that God exists
precedes acceptance of God and conversion. For example, Satan knows that God exists and that God created him
but he still rebells against God. The Blessed Mother said that there will still be some people who will not believe
even after the permanent sign comes. Perhaps those who purposely delay conversion or refuse to be open have
unrepentant hearts. When asked if God’s mercy will end at some point, Vicka reminds us, “If we are open to the
Lord’s mercy, it never stops. If you don’t want God’s mercy, it stops for you.”
Mirjana elaborated on the order of events in a 1983 interview with Father Robert Faricy, S.J. and Sister
Lucy Rooney, S.N.D.. “First of all some secrets are going to be revealed, not too many, and people will realize that
Our Lady was here. They will understand the sign. When Jacov said that the mayor would be the first to run to the
hill, he meant in general, people of the higher class.
“They will understand the sign as a place where they can be converted. They will go to the hill and pray,
and they will be forgiven. When I asked her [Mary] about some unbelievers, she told me: “You should pray for
them and they themselves should pray!” But when I asked recently, she told me: “Let them be converted while
there is still time.”
Jacov noted that the permanent sign, “...will be something that has never been on the earth before.” The
permanent sign will be permanent, indestructible and beautiful. Nothing on earth now is permanent or
indestructible or clearly known by all to be supernatural. Vicka notes that the sign will appear suddenly and be on
the ground. All will be able to see it. Jacov believes that, “When the permanent sign comes, people will come here
from all over the world in even larger numbers. Many more will believe.”
Fr. Svetovar Kraljevic gives an account of flames leaping on Mount Podbrdo of which Our Lady said, “The
fire seen by the faithful was of a supernatural character.”: “On October 28, 1981, a fire of unknown origin
erupted on the site of the first apparition and burned for about fifteen minutes. Several hundred people saw this,
including many priests and nuns. A guard, who had been stationed at the foot of the hill to prevent pilgrims from
climbing to the top, later investigated the site but found no remains of the fire. Indeed, the fire had burned brightly,
but consumed nothing.
“The visionaries did not see the fire because all were home at that time; in the evening vision, however, the
Madonna asked if they had seen the fire, and when they said they had not, she said: ‘This is one of the heralds of
the Great Sign.’ The children testify that the Virgin Mary has told them there will be many more such signs of
warning throughout the world, in Medjugorje and other parts of the world, before the ‘Great Sign’.”
Marija reminds us that, “There are signs in many places in the world now. Many people see luminary
signs. Many experience personal healings, both physical and spiritual, and also psychological. Many have private
signs. People have come here from all over the world. Often they have or have had extraordinary signs in their
lives.” The Blessed Mother has said, for example, that the signs of rosaries and medals changing to a golden color
are signs to help strengthen people’s faith until the permanent sign on Podbrdo is given.
The visionaries know when the third secret, the miraculous sign on Podbrdo will take place. Vicka has said
that miraculous healings will happen all over the world when the permanent sign on Podbrdo occurs. Our Lady
pleads:
“The Sign will come. You must not worry about it. The only thing that I would want to tell you is to be
converted. Make that known to all my children as quickly as possible. No pain, no suffering is too great to me in
order to save you. I will pray to my Son not to punish the world; but I beseech you, be converted.
“You cannot imagine what is going to happen nor what the Eternal Father will send to earth. That is
why you must be converted!” (Friday, June 24, 1983)
Marija emphasizes, “This is a time of great grace and mercy. Now is the time to listen to these messages
and to change our lives. Those who do will never be able to thank God enough.”
Vicka explains (regarding those who are waiting for the sign to come before converting), “For those people
it will be too late. The Blessed Mother says that is why God is giving so much time for these apparitions, so that all
may come to conversion. She wants to make certain that all people have this opportunity. She can’t help anybody
who doesn’t want to change, who doesn’t come back to God, who doesn’t put God first. If you don’t do this now, it
will be too late.” In another interview she elaborated on if those who convert will have it easier during the
chastisements: “Of course. That is why we are trying to lead people to conversion. We have to help people convert.
We have to prepare them for the Chastisement. We help them with our prayers and the things we are doing.
Everything we are doing at Medjugorje is to show people the right way to live the messages.”
Mirjana has been asked if many will die after the first secret is revealed and prior to the third secret.
Mirjana said, “After the visible sign, those still alive will have little time for conversion.” Marija related, “The
Blessed Mother has said that those who are still alive when the permanent sign comes will witness many
conversions among the people because of the sign, but she also says blessed are those who do not see but who
believe.”
When Mirjana was interviewed by Michael Brown, he summarized his impressions:
“While little was said about the fourth, fifth, and sixth secrets, leading to speculation that these were the ones
having to do with the Church (or else secrets of a purely personal nature), the last four seemed to constitute the
great Chastisement...” Mirjana was specifically asked: “Mirjana, people are talking about three days of darkness,
about tidal waves, earthquakes, catastrophes. Do you know anything about these sorts of occurrences in the
future?” Her response was: “I am not speaking about any of those things, nor have I ever spoken about those
things. God is peace. God is love. The messages of the Blessed Mother here are messages of peace so that all her
children of the earth may experience God’s love.”
Ivan’s interview of January 18, 1993 published in Medjugorje Gebetsaktion also seeks to offer
encouragement and hope in spite of potential widespread annihilation. He states: “There is no need of scaring
people. The Mother of God does not come in order to frighten anybody in the world. That is not her goal. She
comes to help us.
“But one thing is for sure: since the beginning, the Mother of God said the greatest threat to humanity was
that it could annihilate itself. And this happens today in many ways: by means of wars, drugs, alcohol; by means of
an immoral life...
“I cannot talk about the secrets. These will be made known when the time comes. But anyone could
recognize certain things by the time we are living. I do not wish to say anything more. Each person has been given
the capacity to draw conclusions.” (N.B. The word annihilate is the same word used by Our Lady at Fatima
regarding the fate of nations.)
Mention of natural disasters circulate concerning earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, typhoons, hurricanes and
tidal waves. Also considered are global economic collapse, droughts, famine and widespread disease. We continue
to see nuclear danger from weapons and reactors. When Marija was asked by the Canadian paper, L’Informateur, if
there would be a nuclear war, she answered that this was part of the secrets. Did she inadvertently reveal a nuclear
conflict by her answer?
Vicka has also said, “The seventh secret has been abated by our prayers. That is why the Blessed Mother
begs for our prayers, fasting, and penance, that other chastisements will be lessened.” She tells us that the Blessed
Mother said that there will be punishments for the sins of the world. Vicka was asked if she would speak about the
chastisements and Vicka simply responded, “With prayer and penance they can be substantially lessened.”
The last four secrets appear to be increasingly serious with great effect on the world. Father Svetovar
Kraljevic interviewed Mirjana and reports her words in his book The Apparitions of Our Lady at Medjugorje: “I
cannot [reveal the secrets]; but I can tell you that the eighth secret is worse that the other seven. I prayed for a
long time that it might be less severe. Every day, when the Madonna came, I pestered her, asking that it be
mitigated. Then she said that everyone should pray that it might be lessened. So, in Sarajevo, I got many people to
join me in this prayer. Later, the Madonna told me that she’d been able to have the secret lessened. But then she
told me the ninth secret, and it was even worse. The tenth secret is totally bad and cannot be lessened whatsoever.
I cannot say anything about it, because even a word would disclose the secret before it’s time to do so.”
Ivanka emphasizes preparation now in an interview with Janice Connell. When asked if she has much
suffering, Ivanka noted, “My main suffering involves the secrets.” And relatedly, “The Blessed Mother has told me
about the future of the world. For over two years she talked about the future. She talks to each of us visionaries
differently. To me she talks about the future of the world. To Vicka she speaks about her own life.”
When asked if it is a good future, Ivanka explained, “The Blessed Mother has told me everything. There
are good things and bad things. The important thing is to know that God loves each of us. We are all His
children.” Next she was asked, “Is it a long future?” Ivanka replied, “For some it is long; for some it is short.”
In response to being asked whether God would destroy this world, Ivanka noted that, “We are destroying
this world, not God.” She was then queried, “Is destruction of the world part of the secrets?” Ivanka said
pointedly, “I may not speak about the secrets.” Does she worry much about them? “When the Blessed Mother
comes to me each year, she talks to me about the secrets. She shares things with me.” Our Lady always seeks to
comfort her children.
Lastly, Ivanka’s guidance was requested, “In light of your knowledge of all ten secrets, what would you
recommend?” The question was answered: “Pray. Always pray. Try to do good things for other people. Try to
live the messages. Please ask people to take them seriously. Please accept God’s great gift to us. Please do what
the Blessed Mother asks of you. Then you will have great peace and joy on this earth, even in suffering. You will
have Heaven for all eternity.”
Vicka tells us, “The best preparation is to pray every day, go to Mass, and read the Bible. With prayer and
penance, the chastisements can be substantially lessened. I can only say: Prepare. For all eternity, you will thank
God if you do.”
Father Kraljevic asked Mirjana if we can prepare ourselves for what will happen. She said, “Yes, prepare!
The Madonna said people should prepare themselves spiritually, be ready, and not panic; be reconciled in their
souls. They should be ready for the worst, to die tomorrow. They should accept God now so that they will not be
afraid. They should accept God, and everything else. No one accepts death easily, but they can be at peace in their
souls if they are believers. If they are committed to God, He will accept them.”
Father Kraljevic also reported that Mirjana flushed when Father Ivila Vega, a priest from Mostar, asked her
about the future of the “West”. Father Kraljevic surmised that this question may have touched upon the secrets.
Mirjana answered, “The West, despite its technological process, behaves as if it has created everything that is
worthwhile and thinks it has preempted God in the process.”
When Vicka was asked if she knew why this is the last time the Blessed Mother will come to earth in an
apparition, she responded, “She says that she won’t need to come again after the secrets are realized.” When the
comment was offered that Mirjana has said that the power of Satan will be broken after the first secret is realized,
Vicka simply said, “That is right.”
When asked if the world will survive the secrets, Mirjana said, “God’s world is unchanging. All passes
away but God’s will. Those who pray understand.” Ivanka has said that God will not destroy the world. She notes
however that it is man’s sinful heart which is capable of such destruction. We must be very thankful that on July 12,
1982, the Blessed Mother told the visionaries, “The Third World War will not take place.”
Mirjana has said that she knew that all would be safe in Medjugorje during the war there. Medjugorje has
been sustained as a hamlet of peace, a place of refuge that will likely be protected. But as Mirjana says, “Please ask
people not to focus on the future. Our life is one day at a time. Tomorrow is no threat for those who trust God.”
Janice Connell asked Mirjana, “Many people ask whether the Blessed Mother’s appearance here at
Medjugorje means that we have entered the End Times. Has the Blessed Mother said anything about the
Apocalypse or the Second Coming of Christ?” Mirjana replied, “That is part of the secrets. I would not like to talk
about it.” Her answer was a bit different when asked by author Michael Brown if she knew anything about the
Second Coming of Christ. Mirjana responded, “The Scriptures have promised us that the reign of God is at hand.
The Lord will walk among His people. His covenant is everlasting.”
Vicka has denied knowing anything about the End Times, the Apocalypse, from the first nine secrets. More
specifically, when author Michael Brown asked Vicka what is not contained in the secrets of Medjugorje, she
confirmed that the Second Coming of Christ, the Antichrist and the End of the World are not in the secrets that she
knows.
The secrets may foreshadow the future of life on earth. Our Lady has noted that in the future, she will no
longer appear on earth in this way. This will also be a time when Satan’s reign on earth will end. The image of the
world after the triumph of Mary’s Immaculate Heart and the cleansing of the world of evil is very powerful. Just as
the village of Medjugorje has been transformed to a sanctuary of peace, so will peace reign in the world. Life will be
centered around Holy Mass and the sacraments. Each individual will blossom in love and peace and the world will
be transformed through faith and prayer.
Jacov was asked about the future. The question posed was: “Will only those who know God, love God, and
live His ways survive the days that are prophesied at all the Marian apparitions throughout the world?” Jacov
responded, “Only those who do God’s will live on. All else is illusion. All else is death. The Blessed Mother has
said: ‘My children, you have forgotten. Prayer and fasting will stop war. It will change the natural law.’ ”
Mirjana has said that she is comforted by the Blessed Mother. On Christmas 1982, Our Blessed Mother
told Mirjana during her last regular apparition: “Mirjana, I selected you and told you all that is necessary. I
transferred to you many horrors that you must carry worthily. Think of me and think about how many tears I
have shed because of these horrors. You must always be courageous. You quickly understood my messages and
now you have to understand that I may no longer appear to you daily. Have courage.”
Our Lady promised Mirjana that she would come to her at any time that Mirjana suffers anxiety because of
the secrets that she has. When asked why does she need to be comforted by the Blessed Mother, Mirjana explained,
“Because of the secrets. I know what awaits unbelievers. This is a time of great grace. Those who do not be ieve
in God, are wasting their lives on things they cannot keep.” She went on to further explain, “The Blessed Mother
has taught me that nothing matters in a person’s life but faithfulness to God’s will. God made us for Himself. So
many people today waste their earthly lives on things that pass away. So many people today do not know God. So
many people today have made gods out of things, goals, and other people. For them there is only weeping and
anguish because our life on earth is so short, so very short.”
Father Slavko Barbaric, spiritual director and parish priest of Medjugorje reminds us, “The Madonna did
not come to announce catastrophes, but more to help us avoid them. We all know a nuclear war is possible, even
without apparitions. If a house burns, it doesn’t burn because the mother cries ‘fire.’ On the contrary, the mother
comes to save the house which is burning and in that there is hope.”
Whatever the visionaries know about the future, they have great hope. In an interview with Father Tomislav
Vlasic from his book The Queen of Peace Visits Medjugorje, Father Joseph Pelletier, A.A. recounts:
“Fr. Tomislav gave a little additional information about the secrets during the taped interview of August 15, 1983:
‘They [the seers] say that with the realization of the secrets entrusted to them by Our Lady, life in the world will
change. Afterward, men will believe like in ancient times. What will change and how it will change, we don’t know,
given that the seers don’t want to say anything about the secrets.’”
The new era will be the Era of Peace. The Era of Peace must come through conversion. The world will
only find peace in God. Again, recall Our Lady’s words: “You cannot imagine what is going to happen nor what
the Eternal Father will send to earth. That is why you must be converted!” The graces offered now can transform
the world. The Blessed Mother has said,” But you can receive a grace in an instant, in ten days, in ten years, in
one hundred years. It is up to you, to the intentions of your heart.” It is our choice to respond now or to wait and
have God’s hand of justice bring about the transformation of this world where He will reign with Mary, Queen of
Peace.
Sr. Emmanuel Maillard reported about the Era of Peace in The Medjugorje Network: “On this occasion
(March 10, 1994), many of the visionaries were asked about the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Ivan
said that the Gospa often spoke about this, but that he could not speak about it. Mirjana also did not wish to say
anything. I do not know if this will be a part of the secrets or not, but it is evident that these visionaries have
received instructions from Gospa to remain silent about this...”
The Blessed Mother has dictated her life story to Vicka. It is to be released at the time which Our Lady will
designate. It has not been published to date. When asked by author Michael Brown about the time of release of Our
Lady’s life story, Vicka is quoted from the “Signs of the Times Journal” (Spring 1994):
“Vicka made one very interesting observation about the ‘secrets.’ When I asked if the life story of the Virgin Mary,
which Mary has been dictating to her for a long time now, would be released before or after the secrets, she said it
is her impression (and impression only) that Mary’s life story would be released before the events in Vicka’s secrets
begin to unfold. This is, of course, highly significant, and if true means that we may have a bit more “breathing
time” than some expect. Vicka made the remark November 5 (1993) at her uncle Stanko Vasilij’s house, and that
night Medjugorje was hit by a thunderstorm that even the residents found unusual. We must emphasize that the
chronology was not given to her by the Virgin directly; it is her own feeling.”
Perhaps God wishes to nurture His children with a better knowledge of the Mother of God in preparation
for the Triumph of her Immaculate Heart. However, the gift of the description of the Blessed Mother’s life may not
be truly accepted and appreciated until the era of peace arrives. It is very possible that only when hearts are truly
open to love in the transformation of the new era will God grant us this revelation. Since everyone will be fervent in
faith in the new era, all will seek Our Blessed Mother with extraordinarily virtue. The writings of her life would then
have incredible impact and blessings. In either case, the fulfillment of God’s love in the reign of the Two Hearts of
Jesus and Mary will be the culmination of the secrets.
If Satan’s special power was given for this century, it will be over very soon. Does that mean that the first
secret (breaking Satan’s power) will occur before this century ends on December 31, 2000? It is possible to think so.
It would at least seem that a transformation and decline in Satan’s power will take place before this century ends. In
fact, it has begun. Sister Lucia of Fatima has explained that the triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary has
already begun with the collegial consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary by Pope John Paul II on
March 25, 1984.
Our Blessed Mother wants us to trust her as she leads us through the Jubilee of the year 2000. It is the call
to a new life now and into the new era, the Era of Peace. The next century will carry her words and messages even if
Our Lady is no longer appearing in Medjugorje. The transformation of conversion will saturate the world. How
long before that happens depends upon our response. Our Lady has explained that if all Catholics were living their
faith, the whole world would be Catholic!
“Dear children! I invite you to prayer, now, when Satan is strong and wishes to make as many souls as
possible his own. So pray dear children, and have more trust in me, because I am here in order to help you and
to guide you on a new path towards a new life. Therefore, dear little children, listen, and live what I tell you,
because it is important for you when I shall not be with you any longer, that you remember my words and all that
I told you. I call you to begin to change your life from the beginning, and that you decide for conversion, not
with words but with life. Thank you for having responded to my call.” (October 25, 1992)
The Feast of the Queenship of Mary is August 22. It is a special celebration as Our Queen of Peace seeks
our consecration to her to change the world, to reign over all hearts. Seek to live the messages and never fear under
the mantle of Our Lady and Holy Mother Church. Pope John Paul II amplified Our Blessed Mother’s messages of
Medjugorje in Fatima on March 10, 1991: “Don’t be afraid, dear children. This is not an old world that is ending.
It is a new world that begins. A new dawn seems to be rising in the sky of history, inviting Christians to be light and
soul to the world that has enormous need for Christ, Redeemer of Man.” Our Blessed Mother Mary’s promise of
Fatima is about to be fulfilled through the gift of Medjugorje.
