After several such dreams last year, last night I again dreamed demons were trying to kill me. It took place in my childhood home, even though it was my current family in the dream. I went into my mom's room and a big scary man climbed in through the window and pointed a giant gun at me, as if about to shoot me. I fell down in terror and grabbed my toddlers, pleading, "Not my babies!" (I thought he was going to kill all of us.) When he spoke, I realized he was a demon. He said angrily and snarling, "We've been trying to get you for a long time...but we're not allowed!" He climbed back out the window shouting, "I'll come again in one week!"

I went into the living room and saw it was getting much darker outside. Joining up with my oldest son and husband, we looked out the dining room window and saw hordes of demons standing in the front yard and in the street, staring menacingly at us. They held what looked like big snowballs in their hands and started hurling them at the house. When they hit, they sounded solid and loud, and it was very scary as they kept throwing them over and over. We turned our backs to them and started singing Christian songs, even the kids. I just sang over and over "Jesus Christ is Lord. Jesus Christ is Lord..." Not sure where I got that from. But they slowly all stopped and left.

As it became so dark it was like midnight, I went into my dad's room by myself. There was nothing in it, just a small table with a bust of Mary with a rosary hanging over it. I knelt down and prayed to Jesus, feeling interiorly prompted to ask Him to help me be very, very small, and then I heard a female voice say, in reference to the rosary in front of me, "May this be a light for you when all other lights go out." That made me think of Lord of the Rings, and I said, "I wish I had a Frodo to go with me on my journey," to which the voice replied, "You have your guardian angel." Then I woke up.

I pondered on this dream for a while in the night. When I was a teen I began having many dreams of demons trying to break into my home. Many of them involved my siblings and best friend being lured away by demons. I would try to push them out but could never succeed until I remembered to pray. These dreams went on for a couple years before my best friend went off into a life of drugs, my parents divorced, and my siblings went down very troubling paths (satanism, drugs, jail, loss of faith etc). Praise God, they have all regained their Faith and live good lives now!

Anyway, it concerns me a bit that I'm now dreaming of demons coming after me. I ask for your prayers, though I know they're just dreams... It never hurts to have some extra prayers.

I have found St Michael the Archangel a great help when I had similar dreams in the past and attacks in such dreams. I will pray for you.

The dream sounds like a warning that you're under attack, but it also tells you what weapons to use to defeat your enemy.

Hi, PF. This is so like what my wife goes through. The demons have been trying to get to her and our family in her dreams, but she is always at her grandmothers house when she was a child. She is an adult in the dreams too. She has these often, and she has always wondered about the significance of her childhood grandmother's home. I will tell her about your dreams and say some extra prayers for you. Please do the same for her. Her name is Allison. She is very disturbed by the dreams. I wish I could give you more insight. And her...

I will keep you in my prayers. All my life on and off I have suffered from such dreams. As a child I would sprinkle my room with holy water before bed. That helped. But the best thing is to consecrate your dreams to the Sacred Heart and Immaculate Heart before you sleep. I think Rain is right. You are getting a glimpse of the spiritual attacks coming at you and the weapons you have been given. Your Rosary and Our Lady and your Guardian Angel. In these disturbing dreams I do always pray and call on the Blood of Jesus. Somehow I know to do this even in my sleep. I find that comforting--like your singing Jesus Christ is Lord.

I have had very similar dreams and always at my grandmother's house too. As I told PF consecrating our dreams to the Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart is a great protection.

Pray to the Holy Spirit on what prayer you should focus on. A wonderful priest told me to do this.

I also get plagued by such dreams.

The first was about when I was two or three years old. I dreamt I was in the most beautiful garden. Like the garden of Paradise; like being back up there in heaven. Suddenly a large gorgeous butterfly happened along and landed on my arm. But as it did so it stung me and the pain was excruciating and I woke up screaming. I knew even back then who and what it was.

I'm not sure what happened in your wife's grandmother's home, but in my case, a couple years after my dreams began, my sister literally brought the demonic into our home. Significantly, in my mother's room, which is where the demon entered the window in my dream last night. In the dream, my husband asked me, "Where did the demon come in?" And when I answered, "Through my mother's window," I felt the significance of it. My sister was able to bring the demonic into our home because my mom abandoned the Faith and left our home, leaving me to care for my siblings. I did all I could and attended daily Mass at the time, but I was not the spiritual authority of that home like my parents were supposed to be.

My room was wall-to-wall covered in sacramentals and my sister felt repulsed and wouldn't even enter. When I was gone for a small amount of time, my sister's friends destroyed and removed all the holy pictures and crucifixes throughout the rest of the house. Eventually a black mold began spreading across the ceiling of my mother's room where my sister resided and we all had to move out.

St John of The Cross (A Doctor of the Church) teaches, It is best not to dwell on the dreams.

You don't need to know their significance or source.

If from God, they will have the intended effect if we give them importance or not.

If from an evil source, it is best not to dwell on them.

If from your imagination/ subconscious dwelling on them would not be good.

Don't ascribe to them any undue importance, and certainly no fear. Bring them to your Confessor or spiritual director if you have one.

Prayer and trust in God is the best response in any case.

Thank you, yes, this is a good point. I did start to get worried because of the "coming true" of my previous similar dreams years ago, but then I remembered...those dreams taught me I couldn't stop what would happen by my own doing; my job was only to pray. So I prayed, through all those years after...and the darkness wasn't the end of the story! My family pulled through; God rescued each one bit by bit and is still working in their lives, bringing things together for their good. And if I'm being spiritually attacked, well, again, what I need to do is just keep praying. I'm consecrated to Mary and St. Joseph, and I know they've got me in their loving care. My fear of my own weakness shouldn't eclipse my trust in Christ, Who has me in His hands. I'm feeling much more at peace after realizing that.

Thank you for this idea. There are two prayers that I instantly memorized as a child and are the only prayers I can always give my full attention to without distractions no matter how many times I pray them: The Golden Arrow prayer, and O Sacred Head Surrounded. I've always wondered if God sometimes chooses certain prayers he particularly wants a person to pray.

PF - the deliverance prayers by Fr Ripperger are very useful. Especially the generational prayers. I bought his book of prayers and really recommend it.
