May these quotes help you on your journey. My only request is that each forum brother and sister only add one a day...so it can have some meaning to you and others. May Gods Will be Done
“To convert somebody go and take them by the hand and guide them.” -St. Thomas Aquinas Sounds like Our Holy Father Papa Francis. May we all help those in need.
"Indeed, the true friends of the people are neither revolutionaries, nor innovators: they are traditionalists." -Pope St. Pius X We must keep this in mind during these dangerous times when "innovators" seek to change or circumvent Church Tradition and Dogma with their "new" ideas.
"Pray, Hope, and Don't Worry" - St. Pio of Pietrelcino A very fitting admonishment for the world we are living in today. I have the first two parts of his advice down ok, it's that last one that gives me trouble
“We always find that those who walked closest to Christ were those who had to bear the greatest trials.” -St. Teresa of Avila Sometimes we only see the highlights of saints like ESPN. But its the everyday life we forget. Brother al
St. Teresa of Ávila was knocked off her donkey and fell into the mud, injuring her leg. “Lord,” she said, “you couldn’t have picked a worse time for this to happen. Why would you let this happen?” And the response in prayer that she heard was, “That is how I treat my friends.” Teresa answered, “And that is why you have so few of them!” I love this little quote/story. Obviously she meant this in jest, but it shows that we can have a sense of humor about our faith and we do not need to be dour all of the time.
And the response in prayer that she heard was, “That is how I treat my friends.” Teresa answered, “And that is why you have so few of them!” Thats GOLD . pure gold.
'Love and do what you will' St Augustine. This teaches me that love is first, second and third. St John of the Cross said something similiar. 'At the eventide of life we will be judged on love'.
Maybe you could start a thread on what ''Love'' is Padraig. ''Love'' is thrown around these days kinda carelessly .
I just knew you'd wanna put the brakes on that one, Mac. I just hope you're not riding shotgun with St Pete when I hit those pearly gates.
I had never heard of Merton. Just read the first page of this forum on him, seems liked enough ,a little odd...http://forums.catholic.com/showthread.php?t=315464
Ah well, Jesus was a little odd too, or so some of the traditional Jews thought, we know better "No Man is an Island" and "Elected Silence" are the only two book of his with which I am familiar.
I agree wtih the link. I would avoid the later writings of Merton. In fact I would aoid Merton altogether. ..and I am writing as someone who was once a big, big fan. I am afraid he went right of the rails.
I won't write too much about Merton , some of his followers are a bit fanatic and might invade the forum looking to slit my throat or something.
