'If obedience sends you to the kitchen remember that the Lord walks among the pots and pans and that He will keep you in inward tasks, and in outward ones too.’ St. Teresa of Avila
I love this! This reminds me of something a sweet sister told me when I was visiting the convent that Sister Josefa Menendez served in as a member of the Society of the Sacred Heart in Les Feuillants, Poitiers, France. I was walking on air because I could not believe I was actually there. We were passing through the dining room and Sister told me that this was the room that Sr. Josefa and Jesus would often be in together, setting the tables and sweeping up afterwards. He really does walk among us.
I am thrilled you were there! I have a special love for Sister Josepha's diary. It has been my favorite book for hours of adoration for years! And I absolutely love the episodes in the kitchen.
It was an unbelievable day! Sister Josefa's book opened up my eyes to so much in the spiritual world, which is why it is a favorite adoration partner for me also. I was able to attend a Mass as soon as I arrived in the morning, visited her small cell with all of her precious few belongings, stood before the confessional where she poored her heart out to her confessor, and visited the infirmary where she died. I even had time to visit her grave which was outside the convent walls by a few miles. My taxi driver let me off and the cemetery was deserted and I couldn't find her. I wandered around looking for her for at least 30 minutes and I was worried that I would have to leave to catch the train back to Paris. I prayed to Josefa for help. Just then a woman drove up bringing flowers to leave for a family member and somehow she understood me when I babbled that I was lost. She led me directly to Josefa's beautiful tomb...I was so happy when this angel in disguise let me take her picture next to Sister Josefa. So many wonderful things happened that day that I still marvel at the graces our generous Lord gives us.
