My good and holy friends, Bruce and Linda Gilbert, and Geralyn and I with them, are rejoicing. Bruce has had cancer for months and was given fairly recently 5 months to live. But for the present, the doctors claim there is now no trace of cancer in his body. They will only acknowledge the cancer is dormant. But the Fulton Sheen Foundation has chosen Bruce as a potential candidate in the canonization process for Fulton Sheen. The two had recently sought his intercession. Bruce and Linda raised over 12 foster children, with a number of them adopted. My favorite story about the two is when Linda told Bruce to go outside and plant some rose bushes for her, that it needed to be done today. It was late in the afternoon, and besides, the soil in that section of the lawn was really stony. He hesitated, but he finally agreed. When he went outside, a village truck pulled up; the guys were eager to be done with their day. They asked, "Could you use a load of topsoil, we just want to get rid of it and go home?" So Bruce took the topsoil for free and planted the bushes. When he was done, he went in the house and told Linda about it. She replied, "It doesn't surprise me, I gave it to Our Lady to take care of it." Holy Mother Mary, pray for us!
When I had Lyme disease recently, Linda gifted me with one of her prayer blankets she makes. She told me, "I prayed a Hail Mary with every stitch and that when you use it you will be loved in a special way by Jesus!" Safe in the Hearts of Jesus and Mary!
As Padraig says-'there are hidden saints around us everywhere. Thanks for telling us about Bruce and Linda.
Weren't there 'delays' with Archbishop Sheen's cause? I can't remember the details, but I suspect his 'rigid' orthodoxy would make him unpopular with the modernists and they'd rather he'd just go away.
I include him in the list of saints I pray to, anyway. I don't include Pope Paul VI in that list. So there!
Yep. Pretty much like that here too. Poor Paul VI. I do think he suffered terribly with remorse as well as physical pain toward the end of his papacy.
I listen to his show on Relevant Radio each Sunday morning as I drive to Mass. I am SO AMAZED each week how very prophetic he was and each program perfectly relates to all the evil happening in our own times!
