Today I was at the market, and in the parking lot I saw a sticker promoting the sainthood of Fr. Emil Kapaun. I took a photo of it, and the man whose car it was came out of the store. As we stood talking, I realized that he was one of my former students from years ago, and he and his family belonged to my former parish. No coincidences. I resolved to pray for the canonization of this priest. The website is beautiful.
https://frkapaun.org/about/ Father Kapaun’s story is that of a saintly hero dedicated to living a life of Christian virtue and service to his fellow man under the most difficult and despicable conditions imaginable. Father Kapaun’s heroism in the prison camp wasn’t an isolated event, however: his lifelong dedication to Christ and to His Church placed him on the path of priestly service that culminated in his ultimate sacrifice in North Korea at only 35 years old. The website is beautiful and is a complete story of his saintly life.
Prayer for Intercession from FatherKapaun.org-Fr. Emil Kapaun By Catholic Digest on May 28, 2018 Monday of the Eighth Week in Ordinary Time, Memorial Day Fr. Emil Kapaun gave glory to God by following his call to the priesthood and thus serving the people of Kansas and those in the military. Fr. Kapaun, I ask your intercession not only for these needs which I mention now … but that I too may follow your example of service to God and my neighbor. For the gifts of courage in battle and perseverance of faith, we give you thanks O Lord. (Recite one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be.) — Prayer for Intercession from FatherKapaun.org
Byron, the whole event is incredible! Yesterday, you remember, I posted a photo of Adoration in the Chapel at Jesus the Good Shepherd Church. That is my former parish. Today this man, a member of my former parish, was in the parking lot with this sticker on his car! Jesus working behind the scenes. Also, I saw the daughter of an elderly lady (same church, I used to go to Adoration with the elderly lady years ago) in the market and she gave me her mom's new phone number so I can get in touch with her. Jesus working behind the scenes. He is truly the Good Shepherd. And Fr. Kapaun is Bohemian. He used to go to St. John Nupomecene Church in Kansas. I go to St. John Neumann Church in Annapolis to Confession. (Nupomecene translates to Neumann) The Communion of Saints is real.
What a blessed encounter HH! Thank you for telling us about Fr. Kapaun, I will pray for his cannonization. I have never seen a sticker promoting sainthood, we need more of this. What a simple yet marvelous way to call attention to this "saintly hero".
Thank you, HeavenlyHosts. You are receiving confirmations left and right! Who says God never speaks to us? I need to start writing down all of the holy saints that this forum is bringing to us...too many to remember but too gifted to forget. I'm old and have lists all over my desk.
Bump My son told me about this pilgrimage held every year in Kansas. Apparently, my former student has been on several of these pilgrimage walks and that is probably why he has the sticker on his car. I read through the information. If a person can't walk the distance, they can be transported by vehicle. https://frkapaun.org/pilgrimage/ The Father Kapaun Pilgrimage Walking the Path to Heaven, June 1-4, 2023 Each year at the beginning of summer hundreds of pilgrims walk 60 miles in the plains of the heartland of Kansas to the hometown of Servant of God Emil Kapaun. They do it not only to remember the heroic Catholic priest and Army chaplain who is on the path to sainthood but to discover the true meaning of their own unique paths to sainthood. Pilgrimage: June 1-4, 2023. Registration will open in March.
