It's hard to be certain about that. What if some of us die a martyr? What if some of us die on a First Saturday, having fulfilled all the conditions of the First 5 Saturdays and obtain Mary's loving promise of going to Heaven on the first Saturday after death? What if we die immediately after completing a plenary indulgence, or those of us consecrated to Mary receive a very generous gift from her? Do you know that St. Therese liked to hope she'd go straight to Heaven? A nun once asked her if she thought that was prideful or presumptuous, but St. Therese thought it was presumptuous to assume one is going to Purgatory. She felt we should rely entirely on the mercy of God and trust God can carry us straight to Heaven if He pleases.
https://www.catholicculture.org/culture/library/view.cfm?recnum=6253 An Unpublished Manuscript on Purgatory I read this sometime ago and I am studying it again to reflect on it.
I have been praying the 12 Year Prayers of St. Bridget for the past 10 1/2 years, which, among other things, promises that those who pray those prayers (or die trying) shall suffer no Purgatory. I hope to make it another year and a half.
I pray too for that same hope. My mind and heart are always in heaven. It’s my actions that I have to work on.
I will definitely do this myself, as I'm very allergic to pain and suffering. Thank you for mentioning it.
