To the best of my knowledge, there's no 'period of time' mentioned in Scriptural Prophesies .. As far as the Day of our Lord? It shall be the epitome of Outstanding!.. as shall Judgement Day.. From the internets... The day of the Lord is mentioned in the Bible over twenty times (some say over 80) and refers to a day at some future but unknown time, when the people of the earth will meet God's judgment. ++++++++++++++++++++ 4 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. 15 “So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’ spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— 16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 Let no one on the housetop go down to take anything out of the house. 18 Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak. 19 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! 20 Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. 21 For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again. 22 “If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened. 23 At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. 24 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have told you ahead of time. 26 “So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. 27 For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 28 Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather. 29 “Immediately after the distress of those days “‘the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’ 30 “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. 31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. 32 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 33 Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door. 34 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. The Day and Hour Unknown 36 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 40 Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left. 42 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him. 45 “Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? 46 It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns. 47 Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 48 But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself, ‘My master is staying away a long time,’ 49 and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards. 50 The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. 51 He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
I think it is worth noting that Ralph Martin who is no alarmist posted a you tube last night indicating that we may well be in the time of the rise of anti'christ. That the restrained are being removed one by one. Family, the social order, the Church. We are at a time where people are choosing darkness rather than the Light of Christ. Apostasy is increasing every minute. Ralph Martin has been a careful charitable voice these difficult years. For him to say this lends great weight to the possibility.
1 John -- The Spirit of God and the Spirit of Antichrist 1BUT DO NOT TRUST any and every spirit, my friends; test the spirits, to see whether they are from God, for among those who have gone out into the world there are many prophets falsely inspired. 2This is how we may recognize the Spirit of God: every spirit which acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3and every spirit which does not thus acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is what is meant by 'Antichrist'; Or: This is the spirit of Antichrist. you have been told that he was to come, and here he is, in the world already!
the apostolic creed makes it clear that Jesus will come to judge the living and the dead, the literal meaning of the resurrection shows us that the final judgment is reserved for the end of history, current events can only be understood as a judgment in the sense of purification of the world.
As long as we live, we can repent and return to God, especially through the Sacrament of Penance. If the sacrament is not available make a sincere act of Contrition! I recall the true story of the invasion of the Italian peninsula by a Moslem army planning to attack Rome by surprise before a Christian army could be formed. Fortunately, they were hung up for two days at a small port city. When they finally captured the town, a speech made by a shoemaker roused the men to refuse conversion to Islam. So the Muslim commander took the time to execute all 800. A Muslim soldier was so impressed that he professed faith in Christ and was beheaded, also. Here is what St. Peter said about the Day of the Lord in 2 Peter 3: 8 But of this one thing be not ignorant, my beloved, that one day with the Lord is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord delayeth not his promise, as some imagine, but dealeth patiently for your sake, not willing that any should perish, but that all should return to penance, 10 But the day of the Lord shall come as a thief, in which the heavens shall pass away with great violence and the elements shall be melted with heat and the earth and the works which are in it shall be burnt up. And it seems to be related to what St. John said in Apocalypse 20: 1 And I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2 And he laid hold on the dragon, the old serpent, which is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. 3 And he cast him into the bottomless pit and shut him up and set a seal upon him, that he should no more seduce the nations till the thousand years be finished. And after that, he must be loosed a little time. 4 And I saw seats. And they sat upon them: and judgment was given unto them. And the souls of them that were beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God and who had not adored the beast nor his image nor received his character on their foreheads or in their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 The rest of the dead lived not, till the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection. In these the second death hath no power. But they shall be priests of God and of Christ: and shall reign with him a thousand years. 7 And when the thousand years shall be finished, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison and shall go forth and seduce the nations which are over the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog: and shall gather them together to battle, the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. 8 And they came upon the breadth of the earth and encompassed the camp of the saints and the beloved city. 9 And there came down fire from God out of heaven and devoured them: and the devil, who seduced them, was cast into the pool of fire and brimstone, where both the beast 10 And the false prophet shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. From Zephaniah 1: 7 Be silent before the face of the Lord God: for the day of the Lord is near, for the Lord hath prepared a victim, he hath sanctified his guests. 8 And it shall come to pass in the day of the victim of the Lord, that I will visit upon the princes, and upon the king's sons, and upon all such as are clothed with strange apparel: 9 And I will visit in that day upon every one that entereth arrogantly over the threshold: them that fill the house of the Lord their God with iniquity and deceit. 10 And there shall be in that day, saith the Lord, the noise of a cry from the fish gate, and a howling from the Second, and a great destruction from the hills. 11 Howl, ye inhabitants of the Morter. All the people of Chanaan is hush, all are cut off that were wrapped up in silver. 12 And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and will visit upon the men that are settled on their lees: that say in their hearts: The Lord will not do good, nor will he do evil. 13 And their strength shall become a booty, and their houses as a desert: and they shall build houses, and shall not dwell in them: and they shall plant vineyards, and shall not drink the wine of them. 14 The great day of the Lord is near, it is near and exceeding swift: the voice of the day of the Lord is bitter, the mighty man shall there meet with tribulation. 15 That day is a day of wrath, a day of tribulation and distress, a day of calamity and misery, a day of darkness and obscurity, a day of clouds and whirlwinds, 16 A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high bulwarks. 17 And I will distress men, and they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the Lord: and their blood shall be poured out as earth, and their bodies as dung. 18 Neither shall their silver and their gold be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the Lord: all the land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy destruction of all them that dwell in the land. And from 1 Thessalonians 5: 1 But of the times and moments, brethren, you need not, that we should write to you: 2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord shall so come as a thief in the night. 3 For when they shall say: Peace and security; then shall sudden destruction come upon them, as the pains upon her that is with child, and they shall not escape. 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day should overtake you as a thief. 5 For all you are the children of light and children of the day: we are not of the night nor of darkness. 6 Therefore, let us not sleep, as others do: but let us watch, and be sober. 7 For they that sleep, sleep in the night; and they that are drunk, are drunk in the night. 8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, having on the breast plate of faith and charity and, for a helmet, the hope of salvation. 9 For God hath not appointed us unto wrath: but unto the purchasing of salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 Who died for us: that, whether we watch or sleep, we may live together with him. 11 For which cause comfort one another and edify one another, as you also do. I think the most important take-away is what St. Paul says in bold above. God has "not appointed us [i.e., the children of light] unto wrath." So I interpret this to mean that at the same "time" that the "children of night" will experience God's "wrath," the children of light" will experience his "salvation."
The Day of the Lord is now. We are in the Spiritual Life constantly experiencing the Day of the Lord. constantly waking the Day of the Lord. As King David said. 'Where can I flee from your face..' Psalm 139:7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? We all know the truth about ourselves. We all know the truth about others. We all know about the path we must walk. We may hide from it. We may bury it. We may flee from it as Adam and Eve fled from God in the Garden of Eden , may God have mercy on us we, but we know. But at some point there is a bottom line, one way or another. At some point there is not running away . At some point there is a bottom line. Thank God there is a point when we can no longer hide from ourselves. It is a most wonderful gift of God that when we look up in the morning and we stare at ourselves in the mirror we don't feel at once like screaming. Recently there was an 86 year old man in London who was stabbed to death on his Mobility Scooter . If this was myself who had done this and looked at myself in a mirror , I would have died at once screaming. Let us at least avoid the Day of the Lord when we look at ourselves in the Mirror of God's Truth, of dying at once screaming.
One thing I have noticed recently is in people who support sin, who support the Lie is this. Suppose they support the murder of the unborn, or say, they support sexual perversion, when any kind of logical counter argument is put to them they collapse like a House of Cards. They loose their temper and shout back at you. It's all hot air and bluff. They know the Truth just as you , yourself know the Truth. Murdering unborn babies is Bad News. Just as Sexual impurity is Bad News. We may hide from this. But we all know it. Somewhere in our hearts it is always, always the Day of the Lord. For some Heaven. For others. Hell. For some laughter. For others. A big long scream.
This is exactly what Pope Francis and his pals in the Vatican and his new appointed Cardinals and Bishops and Clergy, False Shepherds all over the World are doing at the moment. Attempting to create a World were we can gaze at the Mirror of our own faces without screaming. Even though we should. Even though we should scream, very, very loudly. Even if , even though there is even the least sin, we should let out a big loud scream.
My thought is there is different interpretations to “The Day of the Lord” depending upon perspective and context. To Man there will be the Great Day of the Lord when he returns in judgment. But I also think every day is the day of the Lord because He is outside of time. For a day is like 10,000 years to the Lord and 10,000 years a day. Sometimes I just wish He would hurry up because I want to be one of the remnant and some people try my remnantableness
You can smell it in the air. It's coming soon. 2 Peter 3:8 The Day of the Lord …7And by that same word, the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. 8 Beloved, do not let this one thing escape your notice: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise as some understand slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish but everyone to come to repentance.…
