Has anyone heard of this? Walking barefoot on the ground is apparently very good for your health. A very traditional Catholic friend does it daily. I thought it sounded kind of like a pagan or wiccan type of practice. Any thoughts based on fact? If it helps arthritis. I want to know it's OK. If the intention is innocent, I would think it's all good.
If you’re older like me your arch supports can collapse and you can develop plantar fasciitis. Might want to research that a little.
Mid 50s...I'm not comfortable walking barefoot on all the weeds I have, but the grass? Sure for a short time.
Some things like yoga can be done innocently as stretching. Other practices open you up for other things apparently. I'd like to hear more about grounding. if this can intentionally be completely innocent as well.
I don't know about overall health or arthritis, but from my experiences - in areas where it's not a 'cut' problem, it does make for heathier-looking feet. Little children and many tribals and some adults - often go barefoot... It's not wiccan...
Well, one of my friends gave me a “grounding mat” to use when you can’t get to grass. You plug it in. You put your feet on it. It comes with new agey literature. I didn’t take to the idea. It’s more of a “thing” than you think.
I try to do this regularly. It means take your shoes off and walk on the earth like we were supposed to. I haven't watched the documentary but the principle of grounding is very simple and it's actually about just doing what we are meant to do naturally which is to connect to the earth. There are benefits from it, not the least of which is helping us clear electrical surchages that we build up from all the electrical stuff in our lives that make us sick. It's nothing like yoga at all though I suppose that new agey folks can turn it into loving mother earth... Many doctors talk about the benefits of this, including Mercola who interviewed a specialist of this years ago. His videos are all gone now and I can't remember the name of the doctor. Just editing to add: the guy Mercola interviewed is Clint Ober. He is in the documentary at about 6 minutes (I started watching it).
Well, this is the claim they make, and I’m not sure I buy it. This info is not from a Catholic/ Christian site.
It is New Age. There is nothing wrong with going barefoot, but grounding incorporates Eastern religious practices, an energy center within the human body. It is often referred to as spiritual grounding.
Obviously, it can carry that harmful connotation; I won't deny it. But I doubt those hot summer days with my brothers, jumping through the sprinkler and playing tag in the backyard in our bare feet did us any harm. I wouldn't put bare foot in the park on the same level as say, ouija boards. One is necessarily evil/dangerous while the other can be perfectly harmless. Safe in the Refuge of the Immaculate Heart!
True Mario, there is a big difference between innocent fun, and spiritual danger. Unfortunately as with yoga there are so many people who are totally unaware that New Age practices are not what they appear to be, a slippery slope.
Many things can and do get taken way out of context. Andrew, you make a very valid point. At some point, were our ancestors healthier for going barefoot far mor? Did they wear sandals only when traveling or working fields? I have actually observed my neighbors all are barefoot outside far more than they wear shoes. Interesting!
Amen to that Joan! This subject interests people because they are noticing that it helps them get better. In today's lockdown culture, do we want to scare people off about a solution to help as simple as putting their feet on the ground? Anyone interested can find scientific talks about this online now but it is a sign of the times that anyone needs a study for something like this. But I guess we have the little gods of science on our side for this one. Whatever woo-woo beliefs are in eastern religions, the fact is that sitting quietly with feet on the ground can be a first step of breaking with the unhealthy environment and seeking God. Our society is sick and nothing like what our ancestors knew. We are swimming in electricity and EMF signals that are way above what is normal for life and according to many scientists it is killing us. Cooking humanity is a term I've heard too. I must be in same generation as Terry, when we used to experience the benefits of grounding decades ago in simpler times and when we ran around barefoot as kids and had 1 or 2 pairs of shoes, one with leather soles but this benefit is is mostly lost because of rubber and other synthetic materials used in soles of shoes and in our clothing too. So we accumulate charges from our homes, workplace, towns with towers all around us, thousands of low orbit satellites that went up during lockdowns, wifi in public areas, LED lights, smart devices with no outlet for the body. Electric cars, scooters etc are said to be green but they are not healthy and I know people who get sick in those vehicles. Many people realize that they are sensitive to EMFs and go looking for ways to protect themselves from the waves. Consider also why our bodies need electrolytes for proper heart rythm and cell function. Electrolytes are electrically charged and come from the earth and we have issues when we are deficient. Also, I will add that some are pointing out that an ill effect of the you-know-whats is to somehow make use of the body's electrical energy so putting feet on the ground for them may also be beneficial. I could say more about what is going into our clothing and shoes, but will leave that for another time if anyone wants to know.
IF it comes with "new agey" lit - it's a "new agey" thingee... RE: One's Feet? ... Walking about barefoot when and where one can safely ... is the real deal over standing still on a mat that one has to plug in... ! Grounding? Sure! Just make sure the electric wires are grounded!
