Spoiler: big image for example this, from the Cathedral of Salamanca (dont worry, the astronaut was added quite recently, its not an ancient cosmonaut) an astronaut and a grotesque creature. Should this really be in a Temple of God, a church? and what about paintings of st sebastian martyr, or the sistine chapel massive paintings, etc? Isnt nudity a bad idea to portray in a place where people of both sexes and all ages come to worship? This is probably a detail but im worried that bishops, or liturgists are not paying close attention to church architecture. Spoiler: big image or here, is hercules in La Croce cathedral. hercules wasn't morally good, he was a pederast according to the original myths of the greeks. why is he depicted in a church? just put sampson if you want a strongest human?
I saw the image above and immediately thought it was Jacob, who was clothed in a hairy skin by his mother to receive his father's Blessing that was supposed to go to Enoch. Are you sure that is supposed to be Hercules?
I understand your concern, and we need to remember that Church decor of those times needed to tell a story, as many could not read. That is why there are so many images in them by stained glass, statues, murals, etc.. We are not able to walk in nowadays and know off hand what the story was that was being related. There could be demons or serpents on these images to show the enemy. Now we are so on our guard and offended and scandalized by so much, it could seem scandalous. But if the church is keeping mythical statues and images for the sake of history and art, they need to make sure they are kept in a place like a designated museum so that people are not scandalized and confused by them.
yep, its hercules\heracles https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basilica_of_Santa_Croce,_Lecce this is a good example of my opinion. Dragons were always thought to be evil? like "the primordial serpent"\Satan? I know some knights heraldic used them but...st george killed a dragon, that was pretty much representing evil.
