They have not had them in our church but have in surrounding parishes. I think it is certainly disrespectful.People talking and not acknowledging Jesus. My friend in The Flame of Love Rosary group who is a very talented singer and wanted to sing in a musical group that was practicing in church - only went once and was not happy with the idea of it being in church- so she left.
At these Catholic churches, are there any side chapels or Tabernacles in a rectory where Our Lord could be temporarily reserved? Otherwise, a firm no. The local Protestant church would be far more appropriate.
The reason why they use Churches for concerts is that they no longer have respect for the presence of Jesus in the Church. That it is a House of God. Why have they lost such a respect? It is because ever since Vatican 2 they have been Protestantizing our Liturgy and Churches as hard as ever they can.Transforming them into Religious assembly places rather than Temples of God. If you do not believe God is really present in,say, the Tabernacle , why wouldn't you have a Concert? Why not go the whole hog and have a Market, sell horses, have a poker tournament, a Fashion Show, whatever? They do such things all the time now in Protestant Churches, even Gay Pride and Transvestite events , so you may be sure such things are coming to a Catholic Church near you soon. Concerts are only the thin end of the wedge, let them in , let everything in. That's just the way it goes. The best Sign that people don't really believe that Jesus is present is talking in Church and disrespect for the Eucharist. If you respect someone or something you will naturally show such respect. If we were in the presence of a King or President all our attention would be on him. We would not talk in front of him as though he were not there. It is wrong to have concerts in Protestant Churches, or in Synagogues or Mosques too. They have been set aside as places of Worship for God. We should undercut God by using them for anything else. We see this in the Old Testament when the bast of animals, things and people were set aside for God and God's use. We must never, ever sell God short. He must come first in everything. In Scripture Jesus became very angry at such goings on when He chased the money changers from the Temple with a whip. These people were not even in the Temple itself but only in the Temple Precincts or grounds. We must be careful not to Tempt the Lord Our God to Anger against us. The same with Sundays. These are set aside to the Lord for rest and Worship. We must never ever sell the Lord short.
I think the Path of Prayer has tow key hinges, a growing Awareness of God's Mercy and Love and right alongside this a Growing Awareness of God's Justice and Proper Fear of the Lord. When we see people growing in either one without the other it is time to duck and dive.
Somethings make God very, very, very angry. We must beware the Anger of God, He is already too much offended.
The Soviet union turned churches into night clubs and museums and at one point barns to house horses.
We have been wondering also if Our Lord had been taken from the tabernacle but have no answer. In time I will find out.
I don't approve of this at all. It happens quite frequently where I live. My sister once voiced her concerns about it to one of the priests and he said she must be a very unhappy person if she's worried by these kinds of things
This reminds me of the early videos of Fr. Michel Rodrigue wherein he had a crowd inside the church and he spoke to them and laughed, and gave his speeches. His back was to the tabernacle, as I recall. It just didn't sit well with me, but not everyone saw it the way I did. I couldn't deal with it.
The one I know of is a cathedral in Ireland. They gave it over to a traditional Irish band who sat in the sanctuary in front of the altar. I hope the Eucharist was removed but I don't know. Quite a few churches are moving in this direction because of lack of funds. I see it as the bishops compromising and wonder where it will end? How can they now refuse say a different faith group who may want to hold their own concert etc in a large venue?
