An in-law works in a county hospital there. Husband and I are 40 miles from City Limit. October 22 saw a whopping 1,161 new cases in a mere 24 hours. The City is requesting that a military hospital there open beds for civilians.
UPDATE - five minutes after initial post: Husband's just told me an additional 969 cases over the past 24 hours. So 1,161 new cases reported on October 22 and 969 new cases reported on October 23.
We have got to keep in mind that all these cases will not end up in the intensive care units. Well over 90% are not serious infections. It would be a good idea to fact check and see if there are more efficient test facilities opened up, giving the impression that new cases are appearing; or a new test kit being used which could prove to be more reliable or indeed in the final analysis, less reliable for verifying positive covid-19 virus present. I have no idea what is going on here. But a very similiar thing was reported from Belgium, the worst virus spot in Europe, were things have suddenly gone totally crazy. I mean totally crazy.
A pertinent reminder. The issue within this which does concern me is it seems persons in their 40s and 50s either breeze through with little to no trouble, or it's bad/ICU.
We were warned of a fall recurrence at the beginning of the pandemic, sadly. There are different covid-19 strains, aren't there? Maybe a particularly bad strain has reappeared in places. It's not a 'nothing burger.' China shut down its entire economy earlier this year, and Wuhan was really in a dreadful state for months.
My sister-in-law is a pretty tough cookie, and very reserved (in fact the family is estranged; she is the only in-law I have a relationship with), so when she again texted me asking for prayer -- yes, she is worried. It's also a rotten workplace in better times; I think her supervisor might have her head slammed down on her desk if it were me working there instead. That's not Christ-like, but I honestly want to pin a medal on sis-in-law's blouse for her incredible endurance.
I believe that in Brazil some different virus strains have circulated because there has been a pattern of deaths in several regions in which people from the same family died within hours of difference, which is a more aggressive variation.
I don't know it may well be fake news. All I can say in my own hospital they seem to be dropping like flies. The staff I mean. This is a huge hospital taking really strong precautions where I work in Ireland and we are at the very start of the Winter and thing are really grim already. As Winston Churchill said there are lies , damn lies and statistics. I can only refer to what I see around me and things are really, really bad. I am very easy going about the virus, very sceptical. But I don't know the last week or so I have become very concerned. Not with what I hear in the media but what I see with my own eyes. This virus is very hard hitting and spreads like Wild Fire. At least as far as I can see. It has taught me at least to be humble in my own opinions about it. In either case it is far from to be taken lightly. The size of this hospital and very, vulnerable patients I would expect very,very many deaths here. It appears unavoidable. Poor people, I look at them at night. So sad. It's like a Wild Fire. No matter what we do, we just can't stop it.
And in this part of Ireland 1 in a hundred families has been infected, this is a very, very high number indeed. We are only in October. With the flu season normally I would not expect to see a spike till around , say February. This is months and months early. The Weather is still quite warm... I'm only reporting what I see, I find it really grim. When you do get it with co morbidities it is a real issue, requiring hospital stay. Really, really grim.

BBC is fake news. Where did you 1 in 100 figure come from? What age are the people dying? How many are dying directly due to covid or WITH covid.
