I realize that a key problem I have, is that get caught up in narratives and running commentaries, both in my own struggles with sin and temptation but also in how I deal with things on a cultural and global level.

Does anyone have any advice on how to avoid following narratives and running commentary?

Hi RW, personal sin darkens the intellect. So to the extent that one's soul is burdened by sins (either unabsolved mortal or venial sins), that person's intellect will be obscured and demons will be more effective in their attacks. So the best strategy against that is the following:

    1. We must examine our conscience, sorrowfully repent of our sins, receive the Sacrament of Penance from a valid Catholic priest, complete the assigned penance and remain in a state of grace.

    2. Also, daily attendance at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and reception of the Sacrament of the Eucharist (in a state of grace) will strengthen the soul.

    3. We must watch and pray for discernment about the crisis in the Church. This involves reading the Catechism also (the Catechism of Trent is the best).

May the Lord bless you and strengthen you!
