My grandfather died a few months ago, and my mom and I were just discussing that we missed the very special thing he used to do for everyone in our family. He had Masses said for us a couple times a year, every year. I don't know if he had very specific private Masses said for us, but he was always enrolling us and our intentions in various series of Masses. Now someone needs to pick up where he left off, because I'm sure the graces from those Masses were of great benefit. So I will take up the torch. I think I'll do specific Masses though, as I imagine a private Mass for one individual is of more worth to their soul than being remembered along with hundreds or thousands of other people. I've really been thinking about this and realizing all those years of Masses, thanks to my grandfather, could have been the reason why no one in my family (except my dad, whom I don't believe my grandfather had Masses said for once he divorced my mom years ago) ever left the Faith for long or at all. What a tremendous gift! And then I was thinking, how common is this? Many of you here are grandparents... Are you doing this for your children and grandchildren? Do you have any stories of graces procured for family members or yourself through offered Masses?
I have Masses said most often for deceased family members but I have enrolled family members in Mass associations like FSSP's Adjutorium. Those enrolled have a Mass said for them once a month in perpetuity. For the living or the dead. The Marians of Stockbridge Mass. Have something similar. I am going to start having individual Masses said however for grandkids and grown kids. So important ( but pricey.....but worth it)
I haven't PF, but you do give me pause considering the times in which we live: a covering for the grandkids. The oldest of mine is 11, and by the time she is in her 20s, I probably won't be around. What better gift could I provide? O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee!
