There is a lot of talk lately about the spirit of Communism and the concern of it infiltrating the Church (ie. by way of the Synods, etc). Usually what is referenced is:

"In spite of continuing to see the Virgin, we saw a great multitude of people who were suffering intensely and screaming in terror. The Blessed Virgin explained to us that this great tribulation, which was not even the Chastisement, would come because a time would arrive when the Church would appear to be on the point of perishing. It would pass through a terrible trial. We asked the Virgin what this great trial was called and she told us it was "Communism." "

The key points of above are:

    1. What was described is a great tribulation, something that will come BEFORE the Chastisment

    2. People are suffering AND screaming in terror

    3. The Church appears to almost perish as part of a terrible trial

    4. The trial is Communism

While the infiltration of a spirit of neo-Communism within the Church should give us grave concern, I do not believe the information provided to us refers to this. Otherwise why would people both suffer AND scream in terror? The reference links the nature of the trial to the Chastisement (but in a much lesser form - ie. "was not even the Chastisement") in what I believe is a more material sense.

Many saints and mystics foresaw violent revolutions in Italy and other European countries along with a sudden invasion. Several accounts indicate the Holy Father having to flee Rome and the death of priests/religious.

The lens, I think, we should be looking at with regards to talk of economic instability, societal unrest, etc. is through the question of how can it give a sudden rise to Communism and the apparent destruction of the Church? Current news about economic downturns, etc are scary in themselves but to me these are dangerous pre-warnings to what may give rise to something much more harrowing - especially in light of the coming anniversary of Communism (which was born in violence, upheaval, conflict, and death and would do so again if re-born). I don't mean a quasi-socialist/communist spirit but an actual rise of a violent, anti-Catholic action that is directly tied into Communism reinvigorated and renewed.

That is more frightening to me than news of an economic collapse.

Communism is essentially atheism and satanism imposed via the State. Since the 1960's here in America, Communism HAS been imposed via the State. At first it was subtle but now it is everywhere in our popular culture and in our Laws. Our Lady of Fatima was right when she said that the errors of Russia would spread. They spread to the West where the Church is now but a shadow of what she used to be before the Sexual Revolution in the 1960's. The prophecy made at Garabandal where one of the seers said that it would be hard for people to practice their faith has come true - at least on the spiritual level here in the West. In other places in the world, the persecution spoken of at Garabandal has become a physical reality. Luckily, we have been spared that kind of persecution in the West but sadly in the birthplace of Christianity the ongoing persecution by Western-funded proxy armies like "ISIS" and the "Syrian Rebels" rivals that of the ancient Roman persecutions.
