The story of the Garabandal apparitions and Joey Lomanginos's conversion through Padre Pio. It's available in 26 languages ! http://www.garabandal.us/message.html THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER GARABANDAL VIDEOS IN MY NEW GARABANDAL RESOURCE THREAD !
Upon watching this video something occured to me. From Conchita's early testimony as to what the Virgin Mary looked like,.......... She came as Our Lady of Mount Carmel... blue veil... AND A BROWN SCAPULAR on her right arm. What occured to me is.......... I have worn the brown scapular for many years. My second oldest son (28) was named Simon, after St. Simon Stock. Perhaps it is my devotion to the brown scapular that gives me no doubt about Our Lady of Garabandal. Curious as to whom else on this form wears the brown scapular and if so what is your belief in Our Lady of Garabandal? Is there a link between Garabandal believers and the brown scapular?
I mentioned in the other thread...I was born in same year when the apparitions to Garabandal started. I was baptized that same year in my parish...Our Lady Of Mount Carmel...I went to school at Our Lady of Mount Carmel for 9 years. I still attend Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish. I wore the scapular while in school but not since. Hmmm...I suppose I should look into this Garabandal more...haha.
How about this for a famous Brown Scapular wearer. Karol Wojtyla ( Pope John Paul II ) as a young factory worker, wearing his Brown Scapular. When he was pope, in 1981 he was shot ,the operation ,he told doctors not to remove the Brown Scapular during . View attachment 885
When Mary appeared as Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, wearing the Brown Scapular over her arm, she instantly sent a message of its importance. It also connected the Brown Scapular to the devotions Mary talked about (the rosary, the morning offering, etc) to the Garabandal messages.
Wow, this is interesting...I think my brother and I were both baptized at Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish in our home town too! It was in the center of the Italian neighborhood in which my mom's family grew up. And both my brother and I have been believers in Garabandal since the moment we learned of it.
I think there is a great mystery about Carmel that has something to do with the end times. When I had an apparition of Jesus, and was converted back in 1997, I was led to a book by St Teresa of Avila, and then led to be a 3rd Order Disc Carmelite. About the same time, I saw a re-run on Mother Angelica about Garabandal and Joey, and I ordered a kissed medal, which I then sewed to my brown scapular, and have worn ever since. It seems that in all the major apparitions of Mary she has appeared as Our Lady of Mount Carmel, and has promoted the brown scapular. In the beginning of the Order of Carmel, Elija challanged the people to worship either God, or Baal, and a great miracle ocurred to make the people realize that God was the only "god" and they converted. I think we should all wear our scapulars for protection in these times as demons are extremely afraid of it. We'll have to wait and see how the Carmel connection plays out in the times to come. It has something to do with Mary and the Warning is my feeling. All I know is that when I saw Jesus, He led me straight to Carmel, and I felt at the time that His Second Coming was almost here. I never knew of ANY Marian apparitions before my conversion and was a very fallen away Catholic, so anyway, was amazed about the Carmel connection when I started to learn about the big apparitions of Mary.
Here is the Kings account of Elijah's miracle which converted ALL the people of Israel. I LOVE how he taunted the priests of baal. I know that the name Mary means "star of the sea" and there was great drought and famine on the people who were praying for rain before this miracle. After the miracle there was a cloud the shape of a foot over the sea, and then the rains came for the people. Could the "foot" be Mary's foot crushing the head of Satan?? Ahab called all Israel together and assembled the prophets on Mount Carmel. 21 Elijah stepped out in front of all the people. 'How long', he said, 'do you mean to hobble first on one leg then on the other? If Yahweh is God, follow him; if Baal, follow him.' But the people had nothing to say. 22 Elijah then said to them, 'I, I alone, am left as a prophet of Yahweh, while the prophets of Baal are four hundred and fifty. 23 Let two bulls be given us; let them choose one for themselves, dismember it but not set fire to it. I in my turn shall prepare the other bull, but not set fire to it. 24 You must call on the name of your god, and I shall call on the name of Yahweh; the god who answers with fire, is God indeed.' The people all answered, 'Agreed!' 25 Elijah then said to the prophets of Baal, 'Choose one bull and begin, for there are more of you. Call on the name of your god but light no fire.' 26 They took the bull and prepared it, and from morning to midday they called on the name of Baal. 'O Baal, answer us!' they cried, but there was no voice, no answer, as they performed their hobbling dance round the altar which they had made. 27 Midday came, and Elijah mocked them. 'Call louder,' he said, 'for he is a god: he is preoccupied or he is busy, or he has gone on a journey; perhaps he is asleep and needs to be woken up!' 28 So they shouted louder and gashed themselves, as their custom was, with swords and spears until the blood flowed down them. 29 Midday passed, and they ranted on until the time when the offering is presented; but there was no voice, no answer, no sign of attention. 30 Then Elijah said to all the people, 'Come over to me,' and all the people came over to him. He repaired Yahweh's altar which had been torn down. 31 Elijah took twelve stones, corresponding to the number of tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of Yahweh had come, 'Israel is to be your name,' 32 and built an altar in the name of Yahweh. Round the altar he dug a trench of a size to hold two measures of seed. 33 He then arranged the wood, dismembered the bull, and laid it on the wood. 34 Then he said, 'Fill four jars with water and pour it on the burnt offering and on the wood.' They did this. He said, 'Do it a second time;' they did it a second time. He said, 'Do it a third time;' they did it a third time. 35 The water flowed round the altar until even the trench itself was full of water. 36 At the time when the offering is presented, Elijah the prophet stepped forward. 'Yahweh, God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel,' he said, 'let them know today that you are God in Israel, and that I am your servant, that I have done all these things at your command. 37 Answer me, Yahweh, answer me, so that this people may know that you, Yahweh, are God and are winning back their hearts.' 38 Then Yahweh's fire fell and consumed the burnt offering and the wood and licked up the water in the trench. 39 When all the people saw this they fell on their faces. 'Yahweh is God,' they cried, 'Yahweh is God!'
Elijah was known to make his altar of worship to God on Mount Carmel... where he also resided in a cave there. Also, Jesus performed his first miracle at Cana at the request of his mother Mary. Cana is on Mt. Carmel.
Just like me. My parish, Our Lady Of Mount Carmel was in the center of town that consisted of a huge amount of Italians. As a matter of fact the parish was started for the Italian immigrants that came over that were living here. They had priests that spoke Italian. There was one church for the Irish and one for the Italians. They weren't exactly very Christian like to each other back in those days in this town...haha.
I just texted my brother. He said "Yes, we were both baptized at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. He was born in 1963. Me in 1965......" ...Garabandal years too...
That's awesome Jon. Did you go to the Catholic School (OLOM) also? My younger sister was born in 1963.
No. My family couldn't afford it. My dad went to Catholic high school (had to work and pay for it himself in the late 50's), but couldn't afford for us 5 children to go in the 70's and 80's. Then to make up for it, he volunteered to teach our middle school Catechism classes at our house for 3 years (for all of us public school kids who were in our parish at the time, which was a different parish for us by then, because we didn't live near OLOM). My wife went to Catholic school K-9 then transferred to one of the public high schools, where she met me... Our two sons went to Catholic schools K-12, and the oldest graduated this past summer from Saint Norbert College in De Pere, WI (next to Green Bay). So he really got 17 years of Catholic education (....$$$$$$$$$). Our 2nd son is on scholarship for soccer at a state school now. Our two daughters are still in Catholic school (now grades 7 and 9).
I was able to go to our Catholic School because it was free. I think it was only when I was in 8th grade that my parents had to pay only $100 a year or so. My parents could never afford to send me either if there was a cost but back then we ALL went free (by All I mean every student in the parish. Even kids that weren't in parish went. Not sure if they went free though). It was completely subsidized by our parish. The people of the parish contributed so we didn't have to pay. That's how important it was to Catholics back then around here for their kids to get a Catholic education. So sad how times have changed now. That Catholic grade school that I went to has closed in the last few years. I was so upset about. Still not completely over it. It's now a public school. They took out any evidence of Catholicism from the school. Took away a beautiful statue of Our Lady (although it is now at the Church) which was imported from Italy way back when. Also took down a giant Cross that was in front of school. There just weren't enough people sending their kids there plus there was a substantial cost now to go there. Those were the best days of my life at that Catholic school. I loved them so much. I have the fondest of memories of those days. To this day I still walk or jog there. I call it the Temple of Memories. I can still feel the presence of God there. Those Nuns planted the seed of God and our Church in me back then and it finally sprouted after many many years of not practicing the Faith. I often pray to God to to be able to recapture the innocence and purity of those days.
I just saw this thread and it's interesting that recently I watch this very good video of Fr. Joe Jannuzzi on the Brown Scapular [fourth video in this page http://www.broadcastviewer.com/frjoetalks/ ]. He says that Pope JPII when he was operated upon after being shot on May 13, he ordered not to be removed during surgery the brown scapular he was wearing. I used to wear the scapular since childhood but had kind of forgotten about it in recent years, so this was a very good reminder for me. I wonder if Our Mother of Mount Carmel is significant because she is as Christian as she is publicly Jewish -I mean that she comes from the Jewish Scriptures even before the Christian Scriptures- And as I've been reminded (very strongly stated recently in LTTW ), to God the Church is only One and includes the Jews as in the Old Testament, as well as our visible Church today. They dropped off twisting God's Plan, but as St. Paul says in Scripture, their return will be and inconceivable blessing for humanity. And I wonder if Mary will be a visible agent of that return under the title of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. In any case, the promise of getting out of purgatory the Saturday following the date of death is such an incredible one, that we should be eager to spread this devotion to Mary under the brown scapular / Carmel tilte.
It's funny you should mention that video by Fr. Iannuzzi,..that video is what prompted me to be invested in the brown scapular, with the proper prayers done by a priest. I did this today after Mass. I asked Our Lady to set things up for me,..well she not only provided the priest, but also a nun who assisted. I don't think many Catholics realize that to be properly invested in the brown scapular,it has to be done by a priest. I am greatful to you for providing the video talks by Fr. Iannuzzi..
Congratulations, Sunburst, on your being invested on the brown scapular!!!! I'm delighted to hear that you've profited from Fr. Jannuzzi's talks -including this one. I found the link to his talks, I think, from the comments on the Pelianito's Blog -which I only browse, but often provide really great links; that's a very uplifting and charitable little community. Then when not long after there was Mark M.'s post mentioning Luisa and a thread open in our forum, I found the occasion to post them. I've listened to Fr,. Joe's talks and they are life changing. God bless him! And what an amazing God we have with great plans for us still to come!!!
