I believe Our Lady is referring to Rome losing the true faith, as we are seeing with the current state of affairs in the Church today and has been going on for some time - the Catholic schools not teaching doctrine and proper catechism anymore, the priests not talking about sin and repentance from the pulpit, religious societies slowly losing their rules of practice... these things are all anti-christ. The Church went silent it seems after Vatican II and allowed the forces of evil to progress to where they are today. This 'age' was foretold in many apparitions, specifically La Salette among others. It could also mean at some point an actual evil person will take over the Vatican.

Ven. Bartholomew Holzhauser had what he called Divine inspiration and wrote on the 7 ages of the Church. They are supposed to be prefigured by the 7 churches of Asia Minor at the start of the Book of the Apocalypse in the Bible. It would seem we are currently at the very end of the 5th age and will be entering the 6th age soon.

    Venerable Bartholomew Holzhauser (1613-1658)

Praetorian, Your answer sounds interesting. Does the church teach about the ages? Thank you in advance.

Sparrow, This is a good answer also. I am wondering if you or anyone else knows about Our Lady of LaSalette? I have the following from Melanie, "In the year 1865 the abomination shall be seen in Holy Places, in Convents, and then the demon shall make himself as the king of hearts. It will be about that time that Antichrist shall be born." Do you think that her prophecies are still valid? I have not researched this at all, I am wondering though about the date given? Thank you also.

PS - I am hoping that I can learn a little bit about both of these questions which Sponsa Christi has asked. Thanks again.

I don't know if this is any kind of official teaching, although idea of the ages of the Church is widespread. Many people have written/spoken on it. The idea goes back to the 7 Churches in the Book of the Apocalypse.

I have seen different things stated about this on the internet, so I find it confusing. Most of this is confusing, lol. I try to match things up with scripture as much as possible, not always easy to do though.

There is plenty of credible prophecies that have Rome and the Vatican in shambles due to war in the near future. I think this could come before our Pope works a deal out with the Protestants and Anglicans for a universal worship ie, an abomination to the one true worship in Mass in the name of ecumenism. Including the prophecy of Fatima that has yet to be fulfilled with the Bishop in white. God will not be mocked.

I should have probably started another thread about Our Lady of LaSalette, my question was specific to that apparition. Thank you.

I would be wary about some of the LaSalette prophecies. I read that Melanie was somewhat troubled in adulthood and, with the help of people who didn't have her best interests at heart, perhaps embroidered/invented/imagined prophecies which she attributed to Our Lady but which were nowhere to be found in her original testimony. Maxim, as far as I know, never changed his story of the apparitions. Some time last year, I came across a website giving a timeline of the apparitions and prophecies as well as Melanie's statements in adulthood. I'm afraid I didn't bookmark the website but I'll see if I can find it again and post a link to it.

I think you would find Ven. Bartholomew Holzhauser's ages very interesting. He felt they were inspired. He writes a description of each age and they fit very well (even what came after his time). Here is what he had to say about our time (The end of the 5th age):

Venerable Bartholomew Holzhauser (17th Century) “The fifth period of the Church, which began circa 1520, will end with the arrival of the holy Pope and of the powerful Monarch who is called "Help from God" because he will restore everything. The fifth period is one of affliction, desolation, humiliation, and poverty for the Church. Jesus Christ will purify His people through cruel wars, famines, plagues, epidemics, and other horrible calamities. He will also afflict and weaken the Latin Church with many heresies. It is a period of defections, calamities and exterminations. Those Christians, who survive the sword, plague and famines will be few on earth.

“During this period, many men will abuse of the freedom of conscience conceded to them. It is of such men that Jude the Apostle spoke when he said, "These men blaspheme whatever they do not understand; and they corrupt whatever they know naturally as irrational animals do." They will ridicule Christian simplicity; they will call it folly and nonsense, but they will have the highest regard for advanced knowledge, and for the skill by which the axioms of law, the precepts of morality, the Holy Canons and religious dogmas are clouded by senseless questions and elaborate arguments.

“These are the evil times, a century full of dangers and calamities. Heresy is everywhere, and the followers of heresy are in power almost everywhere, but God will permit a great evil against His Church: Heretics and tyrants will come suddenly and unexpectedly; they will break into the Church. They will enter Italy and lay Rome waste; they will burn down churches and destroy everything.”

I couldn't find the website I mentioned in my previous post, but I did find one that contains the text of the prophecies recorded in the Vatican archives. Daniel Castellano who has studied and written about European history compares the contents of the prophecies with subsequent events in Europe.

I have often thought it very interesting that the apparition in Maximin's Secret closes the communication by stating:
All that I tell you here will arrive in the other century, at the latest in the year two thousand.”

This is curious because everything that is supposed to happen does not seem to have occurred yet. However at the beginning of the secret the apparition states:
“If my people continue, what I will say to you will arrive earlier, if it changes a little, it will be a little later.

This seems to indicate that there is some possible variation in the exact timetable of the events to come. I wonder if the delay is due to the consecration performed by Pope St. John Paul II in 1984.

Here is the full text of Maximin Giraud's Secret:

On September 19, 1846, we saw a beautiful Lady. We never said that this lady was the Blessed Virgin but we always said that it was a beautiful Lady.

I do not know if it is the Blessed Virgin or another person. As for me, I believe today that it is the Blessed Virgin.

Here is what this Lady said to me:

“If my people continue, what I will say to you will arrive earlier, if it changes a little, it will be a little later.

France has corrupted the universe, one day it will be punished. The faith will die out in France: three quarters of France will not practice religion anymore, or almost no more, the other part will practice it without really practicing it. Then, after [that], nations will convert, the faith will be rekindled everywhere.

A great country in the north of Europe, now Protestant, will be converted; by the support of this country all the other nations of the world will be converted.

Before all that arrives, great disorders will arrive, in the Church, and everywhere. Then, after [that], our Holy Father the Pope will be persecuted. His successor will be a pontiff that nobody expects.

Then, after [that], a great peace will come, but it will not last a long time. A monster will come to disturb it.

All that I tell you here will arrive in the other century, at the latest in the year two thousand.”

    Maximin Giraud

(She told me to say it some time before.)

My Most Holy Father, your holy blessing to one of your sheep.

    Grenoble, July 3, 1851.

About Melanie of La Salette: in a letter written to Luisa Piccarreta on April 17, 1927, Saint Annibale Di Francia, who was Luisa's Extraordinary Confessor and publisher of several of her writings, wrote to Luisa, "When Melanie
was staying with us, this elect creature had the gift of performing miracles, and she bestowed several healings."
Melanie stayed at the Institute, the Daughters of Divine Zeal, for a year. St. Annibale was the founder of the Rogationists and the Daughters of Divine Zeal and was Beatified by Pope Hohn Paul II.
There is more on this subject, but I'm off to Mass and cannot post anymore. If you wish to know more, let me know and I will tell you about it later today. God bless you.

Praetorian, I believe that the church may believe that the last age, the 7th age, is 1335 days long. IOW, I am not certain that the AC's first 3.5yrs are included here because I am not certain that it is believed that he is exposed until he institutes that abomination of desolation. I wonder how short of a period the 6th age may be? Maybe the 6th age only has a duration of 3.5 years also?

PS- I have posted before about Bl. Emmerich stating that she saw the beast from the sea enter the church before the woman of revelation gives birth. I assumed that the beast of the sea must therefore be the false prophet but may be not. It's definitely confusing.

It may be. I do not know if the Church has made any official pronouncement on it since it is not official Church teaching. Also the last age is the era of the Antichrist, but that doesn't mean that the exact length of it is only his reign. It could be the era leading up to it as well. I don't really know.
