I felt so glum yesterday reading all of the blah church news. This video made me so happy, I was smiling from ear to ear. These Catholic women in India dressed up as so many apparitions of Our Holy Mother.
Speaking of all things Mary that makes me smile.... The Veiled Virgin. The detail achieved this piece of marble is stunning. The Veiled Virgin is a Carrara marble statue carved in Rome by Italian sculptor Giovanni Strazza (1818–1875), depicting the bust of a veiled Virgin Mary. The exact date of the statue's completion is unknown, but it was probably in the early 1850s. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Veiled_Virgin
What a marvelous rendering. To achieve the effect of a veil o ver Our Lady's face in stone!!! Remarkable.
The veil looks as if the wind is slightly blowing it against her face, and almost has an almost transparent sheen to it, it's so masterfully done.
