ROME, May 19, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) – Cardinal Raymond Burke issued a call this morning for the Catholic faithful to “work for the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.”

Cardinal Burke, who is one of the four Cardinals who have asked Pope Francis for a clarification of Amoris Laetitia, made his appeal at the Rome Life Forum, in the month of the centenary of Our Lady of Fatima’s first apparition to the three shepherd children.

Burke is the former prefect of the Apostolic Signatura and current Patron of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta.

In a comprehensive address on “The Secret of Fatima and a New Evangelization,” Cardinal Burke, in the presence of fellow dubia Cardinal Carlo Caffarra, outspoken Kazakhstan Bishop Athanasius Schneider and over 100 life and family leaders from 20 nations, said that the triumph of the Immaculate Heart would mean much more than the ending of world wars, and the physical calamities that Our Lady of Fatima predicted.

“As horrible as are the physical chastisements associated with man’s disobedient rebellion before God, infinitely more horrible are the spiritual chastisements for they have to do with the fruit of grievous sin: eternal death,” he said.

He expressed agreement with one of the foremost Fatima scholars, Frère Michel de la Sainte Trinité, who said that the promised triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary undoubtedly refers firstly to “the victory of the Faith, which will put an end to the time of apostasy, and the great shortcomings of the Church’s pastors.”

Turning to the current situation in the Church in light of Our Lady of Fatima’s revelations, Burke said:

The teaching of the Faith in its integrity and with courage is the heart of the office of the Church’s pastors: the Roman Pontiff, the Bishops in communion with the See of Peter, and their principal co-workers, the priests. For that reason, the Third Secret is directed, with particular force, to those who exercise the pastoral office in the Church. Their failure to teach the faith, in fidelity to the Church’s constant teaching and practice, whether through a superficial, confused or even worldly approach, and their silence endangers mortally, in the deepest spiritual sense, the very souls for whom they have been consecrated to care spiritually. The poisonous fruits of the failure of the Church’s pastors is seen in a manner of worship, of teaching and of moral discipline which is not in accord with Divine Law.

The call for the consecration of Russia is for some controversial, but Cardinal Burke addressed the reasons for his appeal simply and straightforwardly. “The requested consecration is at once a recognition of the importance which Russia continues to have in God’s plan for peace and a sign of profound love for our brothers and sisters in Russia,” he said.

“Certainly, Pope Saint John Paul II consecrated the world, including Russia, to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on March 25, 1984,” said Cardinal Burke. “But, today, once again, we hear the call of Our Lady of Fatima to consecrate Russia to her Immaculate Heart, in accord with her explicit instruction.”

The want for the ‘explicit’ mention of Russia in the consecration as requested by Our Lady was desired by Pope John Paul II, but not undertaken due to pressure from counselors. This fact was confirmed most recently by the official representative of Pope Francis at the Fatima anniversary celebration last week in Karaganda, Kazakhstan.

Speaking on May 13, Cardinal Paul Josef Cordes, former president of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum, recalled his conversation with Pope John Paul II after the 1984 consecration, or “entrustment,” which took place March 25, when the statue of Our Lady of Fatima was in Rome.

“Obviously, for a long time [the pope] had dealt with that significant mission which the Mother of God had given to the seer children there,” Cordes said. “However, he held back to mention Russia explicitly, because the Vatican diplomats had urgently asked him not to mention this country because otherwise political conflicts might perhaps arise.”

For those who may still object to calling for the consecration of Russia, Cardinal Burke recalled the words of Pope St. John Paul II who in 1982 during his consecration of the world to the Immaculate Heart noted: “Mary’s appeal is not for just once. Her appeal must be taken up by generation after generation, in accordance with the ever new ‘signs of the times’. It must be unceasingly returned to. It must ever be taken up anew.”

Instructing the faithful, Cardinal Burke taught that Our Lady of Fatima “provides for us the means to go faithfully to her Divine Son and to seek from Him the wisdom and strength to bring His saving grace to a profoundly troubled world.”

Cardinal Burke outlined six means Our Lady gave at Fatima for the faithful take part in the restoration of peace in the world and in the Church:

1. to pray the Rosary each day
2. to wear the Brown Scapular;
3. to make sacrifices for the sake of saving sinners;
4. to make reparation for offenses to her Immaculate Heart by means of the First Saturday devotion; and
5. to convert our own lives ever more to Christ.
6. Lastly, she asks the Roman Pontiff, in union with all the Bishops of the world, to consecrate Russia to her Immaculate Heart.

“By these means, she promises that her Immaculate Heart will triumph, bringing souls to Christ, her Son,” Cardinal Burke added. “Turning to Christ, they will make reparation for their sins. Christ, through the intercession of His Virgin Mother, will save them from Hell and bring peace to the whole world.”

While the coordinator of the pope's 'C9' council of cardinal advisers has dismissed American Cardinal Raymond Burke as a 'disappointed man' upset with his loss of power, emeritus Pope Benedict XVI has defended Cardinal Robert Sarah of Guinea as someone with whom the Church's liturgy is in "good hands."
Two prominent and sometimes controversial cardinals, both seen as conservatives, recently have drawn stinging criticism in one case and a stirring defense in another, and both have come from extremely high-ranking sources.

American Cardinal Raymond Burke was recently dismissed as a “disappointed man” upset over the loss of his power by fellow Cardinal Oscar Rodriguez Maradiaga of Honduras, coordinator of Pope Francis’s “C9” council of cardinal advisers.

Meanwhile, Cardinal Robert Sarah of Guinea, head of the Vatican’s liturgy department, was praised by Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI as someone with whom the liturgy is in “good hands.”

Maradiaga’s comments on Burke came in a new interview book with his fellow Salesian, Father Antonio Carriero, titled Solo il Vangelo è rivoluzionario (“Only the Gospel is Revolutionary”), published in Italy by Piemme.


Burke, who was removed by Pope Francis in November 2014 as head of the Vatican’s supreme court, is widely seen as the leader of the conservative opposition to the pontiff’s document on the family Amoris Laetita and its cautious opening to Communion for divorced and civilly remarried Catholics.

He was among four cardinals who submitted a set of questions, called dubia, to Francis, seeking to dispel what they described as “grave disorientation and great confusion” created by the document.

In the new interview, Maradiaga comes out swinging.

“That cardinal who sustains this,” Maradiaga said, referring to the criticism of Amoris, “is a disappointed man, in that he wanted power and lost it. He thought he was the maximum authority in the United States.

“He’s not the magisterium,” Maradiaga said, referring to the authority to issue official teaching. “The Holy Father is the magisterium, and he’s the one who teaches the whole Church. This other [person] speaks only his own thoughts, which don’t merit further comment.

“They are the words,” Maradiaga said, “of a poor man.”

Maradiaga also criticized conservative schools of thought in Catholicism, of which Burke is often seen as a symbol.

“These currents of the Catholic right are persons who seek power and not the truth, and the truth is one,” he said. “If they claim to find some ‘heresy’ in the words of Francis, they’re making a big mistake, because they’re thinking only like men and not as the Lord wants.

“What sense does it have to publish writings against the pope, which don’t damage him but ordinary people? What does a right-wing closed on certain points accomplish? Nothing!

“Ordinary people are with the pope, this is completely clear,” Maradiaga said. “I see that everywhere.

“Those who are proud, arrogant, who believe they have a superior intellect … poor people! Pride is also a form of poverty,” he said.

“The greatest problem, however, is the disorientation that’s created among people when they read affirmations of bishops and cardinals against the Holy Father,” he said.

Maradiaga called his fellow cardinals to loyalty.

“I think that one of the qualities we cardinals [should have] is loyalty,” he said. “Even if we don’t all think the same way, we still have to be loyal to Peter.”

Whoever doesn’t offer that loyalty, he said, “is just seeking attention.”

While such public clashes between cardinals are rare, they’re not unprecedented.

During the Benedict years, for instance, Cardinal Christoph Schönborn of Vienna publicly suggested that Italian Cardinal Angelo Sodano, who served as Secretary of State under St. John Paul II, had blocked an investigation of sex abuse charges against Schönborn’s predecessor, Cardinal Hans Hermann Gröer.

In that instance, Benedict called in both cardinals for a fence-mending session, among other things reminding them that “when accusations are made against a cardinal, competency falls exclusively to the pope.”

Maradiaga also appeared to suggest that Burke may have been disappointed in the outcome of the conclave of March 2013 that elected Francis.

“The papal candidates others wanted remained in place, while the one the Lord wanted is the one who was elected,” he said, “so the dissent is logical and understandable, [because] we can’t all think the same way.

“However,” Maradiaga said, “it’s Peter who leads the Church, and therefore, if we have faith, we must respect the choices and the style of the pope who came from the end of the earth.”

This is not the first time Maradiaga has attacked a fellow cardinal seen as being a conservative.

In 2014, he called on the head of the Vatican’s doctrine office, German Cardinal Gerhard Müller, to “be a bit more flexible” during an interview with Koelner Stadt-Anzeiger, a German newspaper.

Maradiaga said Müller “see things in black-and-white terms,” adding that “the world isn’t like that, my brother.” Maradiaga also accused the German cardinal of only listening to his group of advisors, not hearing “other voices.”

Sarah, meanwhile, who was appointed by Francis as Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments in November 2014, has drawn fire in more progressive quarters for his fairly traditional views on the Church’s worship.

In April, for instance, Sarah gave a talk on the 10th anniversary of Benedict’s document Summorum Pontificum, authorizing regular celebration of the older Latin Mass, in which Sarah spoke of a “serious, profound crisis” in the Church caused in part by liturgical changes after the Second Vatican Council in the mid-1960s.

“Even today, a significant number of Church leaders underestimate the serious crisis that the Church is going through,” Sarah said, including “relativism in doctrinal, moral and disciplinary teaching, grave abuses, the desacralization and trivialization of the Sacred Liturgy, [and] a merely social and horizontal view of the Church’s mission.”

One liberal commentator derided Sarah for nostalgia for a bypassed “golden age.”

Yet in a new afterword to a book by Sarah, Benedict XVI says the liturgy is in “good hands” with the Guinean cardinal, and praises Sarah for his prayer life.

Sarah, Benedict writes, speaks “out of the depths of silence with the Lord, out of his interior union with him, and thus really has something to say to each one of us.

“We should be grateful to Pope Francis for appointing such a spiritual teacher as head of the congregation that is responsible for the celebration of the liturgy in the Church,” Benedict writes.

The afterword’s last line is, “With Cardinal Sarah, a master of silence and of interior prayer, the liturgy is in good hands.”

The book is The Power of Silence: Against the Dictatorship of Noise, published by Ignatius Press.

Benedict’s vote of confidence is all the more striking given that when he resigned the papacy in February 2013, Benedict vowed to remain “hidden from the world,” and has rarely broken his silence since. The fact that he chose to do so now, many observers believe, reflects both his passion for the liturgy and also his support for Sarah.

Finally a faithfilled Cardinal calling for the ONLY thing Our Lady of Fatima said would bring about her Triumph and era of peace, which is the consecration of Russia. God Bless Cardinal Burke, once again, for seemingly one of the few ranking Cardinals of the Church who has the courage and foresight to do the right things in a world gone to hell along with many apostate clergy within the highest levels of the church.

 

God will not be mocked, the heretics will answer to God soon enough. Let us continue to pray our rosaries for Mary's victory over the great apostates.

Notice the first 5 of these are things that we the laity are supposed to be doing to bring about the Triumph of The Immaculate Heart.

Are we really doing all of these?

It is too easy for us to point fingers at the Popes and the Church hierarchy for not mentioning Russia by name in a consecration, but if we are not even doing our part we shouldn't cast stones. I include myself in this. I know I am far from doing all I should be.

Today we have an example of a cardinal against a cardinal. While we grant that cardinals have always been against cardinals, today’s conflicts are particularly disturbing. The stakes are very high, the points of dispute are serious, and the role of social media amplify the confusion.

In the past, Card. Rodriguez Maradiaga also publicly attacked Card. Müller, Prefect of the CDF.

Clearly Card. Rodriguez has not taken the time to get to know Card. Burke personally. I have. The judgement of Card. Burke which Card. Rodriguez has somewhat rashly asserted is, quite simply, the opposite of the truth. I don’t doubt, however, that he sincerely believes what he said about his brother in the College.

I know that many of you say the Rosary each day. I suggest that you say a decade of your Rosary for Card. Rodriguez Maradiaga.

The renewal of our personal consecration to Jesus through His Most Holy Mother Mary is a prayer we must continue to pray and renew, each day. Here Cardinal Burke reminds the world of this truth of our Holy Catholic faith.

Just as we renew our baptisimal vows each year in Holy Week, we are reminded to renew our promises, our consecrations, our conversion, our trust and our hope which give us strength and conviction to live our life only for Jesus. Especially in these most troubling times.

 

Cardinal Burke is not only asking that laity continue living the 5 points above, but most importantly, at this point, that the Pope does #6 and in union with the world bishops consecrate Russia to her Immaculate Heart.

One of the few times I will have to disagree with the good Cardinal Burke. The Church has told us definitively and finally that the Russia Consecration has already been done and will not be done again for the simple fact that God accepted it in 1984 regardless of what Cardinal Burke or anyone else thinks or feels. Cardinal Burke and the "traditionalists" have many fine qualities but they are walking a fine line when it comes to obedience and Pride. This matter of the Consecration is a spiritual test of obedience and, sadly, many well-meaning Catholics are setting themselves up for failure by setting themselves up as their own authorities on this matter in opposition to legitimate Church authority and hierarchy.

And, sadly and predictably, this obsession with the Russia Consecration has served as misdirection from a request that remains unfulfilled: Our Lady of All Nations' request to Ida Peerdeman that the Fifth Marian Dogma be solemnly defined in order that Our Blessed Mother be permitted to intervene in the interests of peace.

 

Please read more carefully. Cardinal Burke never said whether the 1984 Consecration was done correctly or not. In fact that is a complaint among some of the extremists, that he has said the 1984 Consecration DID fulfill Our Lady's demands at Fatima.

What in God’s name does the 1984 consecration of the world have to do with Our Lady’s “explicit instructions”?

Why did Cardinal Burke feel compelled to even bring that up?

Only he can say for certain, but it sure looks to me like someone lacks the testicles to simply speak the truth without equivocation.

Either the consecration of Russia was done, or it wasn’t. Period.

Pay close attention to Burke’s words:

Mary’s simple request for the consecration of Russia (which in truth is God’s request delivered by Our Lady), according to John Paul II, who not only failed to do it over the course of more than a quarter of a century as pope, but created the Assisi abominations as an alternative means of achieving the world peace that she promised, “is not just for once” but “must be unceasingly returned to”?

What a load of steaming excrement.

And for heaping this manure upon the flock Cardinal Burke deserves our esteem?

Cardinal Burke also said:

“The Third Secret is directed, with particular force, to those who exercise the pastoral office in the Church. Their failure to teach the faith, in fidelity to the Church’s constant teaching and practice, whether through a superficial, confused or even worldly approach, and their silence endangers mortally, in the deepest spiritual sense, the very souls for whom they have been consecrated to care spiritually.”

As I recall, the Third Secret as allegedly published in full by the Holy See in the year 2000 said absolutely nothing about a failure on the part of those who exercise the pastoral office in the Church.

Is Cardinal Burke now hinting with winks and nods (because God forbid he should speak like a man) that the Vatican orchestrated a magnificent lie concerning the Third Secret on the watch of John Paul the Great Ecumenist with the help of his faithful sidekick Josef Ratzinger?

It would seem so.

In an article written for the Catholic Herald in July of 2016, some person named Joanna Bogle shared the following:

Back in 2013, when there was an outbreak of lobbying by the Fatimists, I wrote to Cardinal Raymond Burke, then head of the Apostolic Signatura, expressing my concern. He wrote back: “You are correct that there is much confusion about the message of Our Lady of Fatima, caused especially by Fr. Nicholas Gruner, a priest who is not in good standing in the Church, and that this confusion is harmful to many good people who are being led astray about the important message of Our Lady of Fatima.”​

As far as I’m concerned, Cardinal Burke has exactly ZERO credibility with respect to Fatima.

If, in fact, he has had a change of heart, great, but the first order of business is this:

He owes Fr. Nicholas Gruner a posthumous, and very public, apology.

Until that happens, you won’t find any hip hip hoorays for Cardinal Burke on these pages.

This is a great call from Cardinal Burke.


He expressed agreement with one of the foremost Fatima scholars, Frère Michel de la Sainte Trinité, who said that the promised triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary undoubtedly refers firstly to “the victory of the Faith, which will put an end to the time of apostasy, and the great shortcomings of the Church’s pastors.”

Amen to that!
Frère Michel is my favourite Fatima scholar.
I can't remember which volume it is in,but he was of the opinion that the 3rd secret would have to be revealed before the Consecration of Russia would take place.
