Today is his feast day, what a wonderful priest and Saint! He had a great devotion to Our Lady. His story is described briefly here: https://www.thedivinemercy.org/articles/feast-day-st-maximilian-kolbe-aug-14 I am going to read his book someday, but note here this wonderful excerpt from the page above: "My dearest ones, let every fall, even the worst and most habitual, serve as a rung [of a ladder] always toward higher perfection. The Immaculata permits the fall only to cure us of our self-love, our pride, to bring us to humility and so make us more receptive to God's graces." I was shocked and saddened to read that he was killed by a lethal injection. He seems all the more like a Saint to invoke in these troubled times.
I found about about this great saint years ago shortly after the birth of our son. I was at the market with him, and the cashier asked me when he was born. When I told her August 14, she told me he was born on St. Maximilian Kolbe’s feast day. Yes, he would be a wonderful intercessor for these times.
Years and years ago I read a bio of him. So powerful and moving. EWTN has a movie about him tonight at 8 pm.
I’ve known of St. Maximilian but for some reason this year - maybe what’s going on in world and in my personal life, I’m very drawn to him. I must look into the Militia Immaculata more. Is anyone here a member or know more about it? It seems like this movement is exactly what is needed right now https://militiaoftheimmaculata.com/
