I have been working with Padraig this morning to resolve a potential security threat to the forum,Hopefully I have been able to resolve this, the problem was as follows 1. The forum board had been unknowingly set up to allow members and the general public to view messages in users profile pages under the tab 'profile posts'. 2. This has now been switched off to the general public, I have had to allow members to still see these messages on their profile pages so that they have time to delete them, I did not want to delete any users profile post messages in case they may be of importance to them. 3. Could I ask that all members to remove/delete any messages that they have received or posted on their profile page.This will help reduce the time that some moderators will have to spend manually deleting these messages, please do this asap, in the interest of the forum and possible future errors it would be best for the forum to switch off the profile posting function, so the sooner the better . 4.The profile post page is intended to be used to update members of activity that the user wishes to share but unfortunately some users have used their profile page to post messages of a private nature. 5.The danger with this identified threat, all users/viewers could see private conversations in profile pages, users had posted information like email addresses and phone numbers, forums are constantly being trawled by robots to find such information for the intention of a malicious kind, because the profile post function was enabled for all users the forum was also at risk of being spammed by numerous profile posts messages which could have eventually crashed the forum. 6.Please be rest assured that the private message(start a conversation) system was un-compromised and still is the best and safest method of privately emailing/talking to forum members. Please remember if you wish to have your profile page private please select this under the security settings in your account,if any member has difficulty in deleting profile posts or changing their security settings please reply below.. Thanks to both John and Jay who have been helping out with these things. Our Lady certainly sent them. I am sorry I did not spot this problem myself but I am an IT illiterate not to say imbecile. May Our Lady reward them for their kindness.
Sometimes this happens to me , but if you press the button , 'Remove from public view' , instead of, 'Permanently delete' it does pretty well exterminates the little devils anyway.
John when I go to my page they are all still there like for start a conversation,recent activity and likes. I would like to delete all but there is no button on my iPad for that.
They would be your private messages (conversations) and not profile posts messages,your private messages (conversations) can only be read by you and the person you are having conversation with,please be rest assured that these messages(conversations) are completely private not even forum moderators can view these . The messages that I deleted where on your profile page under profile posts Click on your user name (or your picture) this will open up your public view profile page,, click on the blue word "Profile Page" directly under your user name ( looks like this ) RoryRory Perseverance Female Profile Page ( click this word on your profile page) This will open a new page there are four tabs Profile Posts Recent Activity Postings Information You will see the message under the Profile Posts header saying There are no messages on RoryRory's profile yet. That means they are all gone
