Well I am away camping again, this time to Tullymore Forest until Thursday. I have long found it very, very helpful in trips anywhere to pray to St Joseph to bless and accompany me. He was such a traveller himself, often in times of danger. If God charged him with guarding Jesus and Mary I am sure he can take care of little old us. He will become more important for this as times darken I think. St Joseph and the Holy Angels. I turn 66 tomorrow and my mind turned back to memories of my childhood. No Central heating. TV for only a while each day. No Smart Phones or Internet. From I was four year old I went to School on my own , often walking home, four or five miles through the city on my own.. We were the first house in our neighbourhood to have a car or colour TV. I recall the joy of watching the first moon landing. The cooking was very Irish basic , we had no TV and Fridges and Washing Machines had first come into general use. We never locked our doors, for we had nothing worth stealing really. Seven boys and three girls. I find this very encouraging because if we have to go backwards again well I've been there, done that, its not the end of the World. We'll just have to Trust in God and ask St Joseph to hold our hands and walk there with us. Camping is such a joy. But it also teaches self reliance and how to get by.
I hope you have a lovely birthday and a very pleasant camping trip. Today was my mother's and godmothers anniversaries. They were two very resilient women and figures of stability in a world of limited resources and opportunities. I think if they were to come back they would think we are living in hell. We grew up in a country where we had very little materially but we had the greatest treasure, our faith. Stay safe and say a prayer for me. God bless
Fr Hardon once said that if we were to remain as Catholics in the future it would only be as heroic Catholics and heroic Catholic families. We are seeing this come to pass before our eyes. But God grants the grace for the heavy burdens. I think my mother and grandmother would be confused and upset by what is going on. I feel confused and upset myself. I'd really love a chat with Padre Pio about it all... I don;t really mind so much that the world has gone to hell in a basket, its more the fact that Rome itself seems to be in the very same basket as well...
Padraig, may your birthday camping trip be blessed with the abundant natural riches that only God provides. Happy Birthday.
Have a very happy birthday out there enjoying nature in beautiful Ireland! I have that photo of the 'Terror of demons' on canvas, in my livingroom. Got it from the Marian's in Stockbridge ☺️
Yes. "The fall of Rome" is distressing. In Lord of the World the Pope (very holy) ends up in Jerusalem as Rome and the world fall into darkness.
Happy Birthday, Padriag. As my grandfather would say... "You went to the school of hard knocks". God bless you, and have a wonderful time camping.
Happy Birthday Padraig….and I just was thinking how little a boy at just age 4 you were to be walking home alone from school. I guess it was a safer and simpler time, but still. I Could never imagine that in today’s world. Your angel was busy from your earliest years Padraig…may you now please give him a needed break and be safe while camping!
Amen to that! No material goods, but full of faith. Grateful to be blessed to be born into catholic families! Thank You Jesus!
Agree. I also believe there is a correlation between the world going to hell in a basket and the Vatican at the same time. We’ll need every grace imaginable to survive what’s coming. Just trust dear Jesus +++
So did I…reminded me a bit of my own childhood. We had nothing, yet we had everything. I would never, ever trade it. ( Thank you to my dear, dear father in heaven!)
