Plenary indulgence available now throughout the whole month of November for your loved ones. Let's get some out! ROME — Plenary or full indulgences traditionally obtained during the first week of November for the souls of the faithful in purgatory can now be gained throughout the entire month of November with effect from 2020. The necessary acts etc. specified here: One can gain a plenary indulgence each day by visiting a cemetery between November 1 and November 30 and offering prayers for the Holy Souls. These indulgences are applicable only to the Souls in Purgatory. A plenary indulgence, again applicable only to the Souls in Purgatory, is also granted when the faithful piously visit a church or a public oratory on November 2. In visiting the church or oratory, it is required, that one Our Father and the Creed be recited. To be able to gain an indulgence, one must have the intention to gain them for a holy soul (in other words say this), and perform the works at the time and in the manner prescribed. To attain a plenary indulgence, four conditions must accompany the prescribed act (e.g. visiting a graveyard): the faithful must receive the sacrament of confession, either eight days before or after the pious act is performed, receive Holy Communion on that day and recite prayers for the intentions of the Holy Father (one Our Father and one Hail Mary is the minimum, but any other additional prayers may be added). All attachment to sin, even venial sin, must be absent. In other words you must have a detestation of sin. If one’s disposition is less than perfect or if some of the above conditions are not fulfilled, the indulgence becomes partial. One must also remember that one can acquire only one plenary indulgence a day.
At our personal judgement, everything is perfectly fair and the scales are weighed to the lightest featherweight. As those who have suffered it and come back say, there is no dispute its' all exactly right (see Fr. Steven Scheier's story of his near death experience). BUT, BUT, BUT God allows us sinful, mortal souls to touch the scales on behalf of the Holy Souls, especially in this month dedicated by the Church to them, by having Masses said and by reaping indulgences. How merciful is that? And so few of us intervene and touch the scales. There are hundreds of indulgenced prayers but let me remind you of just two. If you bow your head and whisper Thomas' words; 'My Lord and My God' at the consecration of the Eucharist, this simple act is rewarded with an indulgence of SEVEN years applicable to the Holy Souls. If you bow your head whenever Jesus' name is said, read or heard (you just read it so bow), there is an indulgence of 30 days - think how many times you hear, say it or read it. There are thousands of other indulgenced prayers so please find them too and help the dear Holy Souls.
