Dear Friends, so as speculation looms about a possible Papal Resignation and New Conclave, let's have a separate thread to discuss this. I created a poll so we can all vote our choices for whom we think is most likely to become next Pope. One of the recently introduced (bad, imo) rules is that Cardinals beyond the age of 80 cannot vote or be elected. Probably introduced to eliminate the Old-Guard Conservatives or Tradition-leaning Cardinals. Anyway, here are the numbers: a 2/3rds majority is required to become Roman Pontiff, and there are about 120 Cardinal Electors, i.e. Cardinals less than 80 y.o. who vote. So around 80 is the magic number again, that is, the number of votes necessary for a Cardinal to become elected the next Pope.

"As of 6 June 2022, there are 208 cardinals, 116 of whom are cardinal electors. The most recent consistory for the creation of cardinals was held on 28 November 2020, when Pope Francis created 13 cardinals, including 9 cardinal electors.[5] On 27 August 2022, a consistory is scheduled to be held to create 20 cardinals, including 16 cardinal electors."

    Taken from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_current_cardinals

The above link also contains a complete list of all current Cardinals. Let's pray for them and for Heaven's Choice to come forth.

According to this site, "The main candidates who stand a chance of becoming the next pope are: Marc Ouellet and Óscar Rodriguez Maradiaga (America), Pietro Parolin, Christoph Schönborn and Matteo Zuppi (Europe), Robert Sarah and Peter Turkson (Africa) and Antonio Tagle (Asia)." https://italystart.com/who-will-be-the-next-pope/

The names of the new Cardinals to be appointed are here: "On 29 May 2022, Pope Francis announced that 21 cardinals, including 16 cardinal electors, would be created in a consistory to be held on 27 August 2022.[6]" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_current_cardinals#Cardinals_to_be_created_on_27_August_2022

    Thoughts? God Bless.

Christoph Schönborn underwent surgery to remove prostate cancer in 2019 since then I haven't read anything about a possible return of the disease; so perhaps he is still a strong contender since 2005, considered a spiritual son of ratzinger and remembered as the editor of the 1992 catechism.

If the new cardinals tend to vote for someone whose way of thinking resembles Pope Francis, sadly cardinal Burke or Sarah won't be elected.
But we may have a Pope that nobody expects, it happened before.

Is the next pope going to be Petrus Romanus? If so, at a glance, Parolin and Zuppi seem to fit the description. But I don't see Francis resigning any time soon.

Regardless, I hope that the election of Francis is investigated and clarified, and I hope that if the resignation happens, that a strong traditionalist is elected for these times of tribulation.

Has Pietro Parolin been harmed among conservatives for brokering that bad Vatican deal with the Chinese government?

Good question. I would not want to see him elected; it seems he was directly involved in an agreement which has placed Catholics in the Patriotic Church!(n)

Safe in the Hearts of Jesus and Mary!

I know it’s men- human beings who enter the Sistine Chapel in conclave but I also still firmly believe the Holy Spirit is there too. So, I must trust whoever steps out onto the balcony in white is what God wants at that time for His beloved- His Church- the mystical Body of Christ.

If a Conclave does come, I earnestly pray that we the Church Militant are graced with a holy man willing to truly be the “Servant of Servants”.

Cardinal Mueller has my vote. His teaching is so clear and to the point- no dancing around morality!

I had to laugh, I read the topic of this thread as , 'Paedophile Candidates for next Conclave'. :D:D I thought to myself, I must read this one! :D

I have no idea who might be next Pope but I see a few good people listed up there. You can cross them of the list. Good Cardinals are birds that aren't going to fly in the next Conclave.

My guess is they'll be pushing through the most rotten, depraved, evil, heretical, corrupt old monster they can lay their hands on and the goodness knows they have a load to choose from.

Pope Francis left them plenty of monsters to choose from. The next Conclave is going to look like the Adams Family reunion.

It's definitely looking like that. The stage is set for the antipope and his team is in place waiting and ready.
    Run for the hills.

all I know is that if the next pope wants to come across as a conciliator between progressives and conservatives he would probably choose the name Paul VII.

I think Catholic Prophecy indicates that this is the end of the Church as is. The Church is going through it's Passion and Death to give way to its Resurrection. In a real mystical sense if we wish to live with Christ so we must die with Him.

In order that this must be so, just as at the Passion, Satan and Evil have been given full power, control over His Church. But just as with Calvary at the very point were Satan seems to have greatest victory Christ will Triumph by the seeming death of the Church and all that is good.

The Church must enter the Tomb now for Three Days whilst the forces of evil and hell exult.

But at the End of this period of Great Darkness she will emerge from the darkness of death reborn and glorious.

This is the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart.

I am afraid people do not understand how very, very bad things things are now in the Church. Satan is in at the controls now. He is running things exactly as he pleases, when he pleases. The Church is his, or at least on the surface appears to be. In a human sense we are lost. There are no human fixes.

I know this is grim and shocking, but it is the simple truth. Rome is gone. Forget about her. She is under new management.

There is a Bridge in the beautiful Park beside our home. It is 150 years old and I have crossed it nearly everyday since I was a child.

A few week ago they roped it off and it can no longer be used. I asked one of the Rangers what was wrong and he said underneath the bridge the wood was discovered to be rotten.

I checked and it is quite true the wood is like paper. But on the surface it looked like it could last forever, perfectly fine.

The Church is like that. On the surface it looks like it has always done. But look like the eyes of the heart and you can see it is now rotten to the core. Ready to collapse.

Yes. Excellent analogy. I was talking with a friend yesterday about the Church and I said it reminded me of carpenter ants. Unless you are very vigilant you won't notice them. For years all is well. And then suddenly the roof falls in. This rot in the Church goes back at least to Our Lady of Lasallette.
God has permitted the rot to manifest now in all its ugliness. But we know the Church will arise glorious after the rotten structure has been pulled down.
