Amen! O Mary, conceived without sin, I entrust Wayne to you, that you may present him to your most merciful Son, Jesus! Safe in the Refuge of the Immaculate Heart!
Did he ever convert to Catholicism? Just curious. I used to be a follower of Medjugorje and at one point had several of his books, but I know at that time he had not converted. I tried to find a Wikipedia entry on him, but couldn't.
He did convert, a real miracle. He did so much good here below, I have lost count of the amount of times I read of him doing good. Rest in Peace. It is quite striking the number of Protestants converted out there. http://www.medjugorjeusa.org/wayneweible.htm
Thanks Padraig I am so happy he converted Back in the day I could not for the life of me figure out why he hadn't as he was so ardent a supporter of the messages. May he rest in peace.
There was a very remarkable story near me , Sean , in the very early days of Medugorje. There was a war going on here then and there was considerable anti Catholic feeling, real hostility to the Church here in this part of Ireland. Anyway a local Presbyterian reporter was sent out to Medugorje, she was a Presbyterian by the name of Heather Parsons and was blown away by what she saw out there. She converted and became a Catholic. But when she returned home no one at her newspaper would talk to her because she had become a Catholic. But she preservered and wrote a wonderful book about the apparitions which I have read several times. http://www.loamagazine.org/nr/catholic_church/i_came_to_believe.html
I had the Heather Parsons book once upon a time as well. I used to be a huge devotee. Once upon a time Medjugorje and the Church were synonymous to me.
No not at all. I did before the advent of the internet when all that was available was the "positive", but now there is so much more information available to the average person. Being someone inclined to study things from all aspects I listened to what the critics had to say and realized there is much more proof of the diabolical there than the positive. I don't stomp on other people's belief in it because as I said, I used to believe in it very much and I know it's devotees are very attached. That being said I think it is the pinnacle of all false apparitions. I would like nothing more than for it to be from God, but I am as sure as I can be that it is not.
I remember one of my first exposures to Medjugorje was Wayne Weible and his conversion along with his wife Terri to Catholicism. I have a few of his books. I remember looking him up recently and his wife's name was different. I could never find out if she passed away or something else had happened. Does anyone know what happened to his second wife, Terri? God Bless!
Byron, I did all of this research a couple of years ago for my own discernment. I didn't bookmark sites, etc. as I wasn't attempting to build any kind of a case against it. I just wanted to know what the truth was as I had been a believer. If you search on the net the facts are all over the place. Just look up "Medjugorje hoax" or "Medjugorje deception" or other similar search terms. As far as some specifics I know Michael Voris has done research into it. E. Michael Jones also did. I believe Michael Davies wrote a book about it. Lots of sources. I would post up some of the facts, but I would be doing it from memory and I don't want to slander anyone by naming any wrong names, etc. Lots and lots of problems though and easy to research if you are intertested. Just a couple of quick examples. This is the children's former spiritual director who is now into the New Age.: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomislav_Vlašić And here is a disturbing video: And there are many more examples. If you're going to spend a lot of money on a pilgrimage I would go to Lourdes or Fatima.
This video always gets posted to dissuade about Medjugorje however you should know that there are a few factual errors in the video. There are two errors in reporting in the first minute of the video. #1 is that the apparitions began in 1985. That is incorrect! They began June 24, 1981. Error #2 in reporting is that the visionaries just have apparitions on Fridays. That is incorrect. They have had apparitions everyday. Now (2018), just three of the visionaries have apparitions every day. Given that two major errors in reporting are stated as facts in this video, how do we know that Vicka even said those words after the apparition? When the researcher attempted to poke her eyes, she barely recoiled and kept her gaze on the Virgin. Vicka has stated in interviews that the only times she sees the Virgin with baby Jesus is on Christmas Day and this video does not appear to have been filmed on Christmas Day. Given the number of errors in the reporting, I have doubts that the makers of this video are accurately reporting what Vicka has said. As this thread was began to report on the passing of Wayne Weible, I add my prayers that may the soul of Wayne Weible rest in peace. That little newspaper of his that I read so many years ago brought me back in full to my Catholic faith and love for the Blessed Mother.
The mistakes you pointed out are not by the man who did the research, but by the broadcaster who cuts into the video he made and overlays it with her commentary. As far as wincing, you can downplay it, but it is clear she reacted to something coming at her eyes. Visionaries don't do that, they go into a trance and are totally unaware of their surroundings. In any case the video was not a major factor in my discerning of Medjugorje. It is only the tip of the iceberg. People have written entire books with footnotes debunking Medjugorje. As I mentioned I am not on any crusade against it, but the facts are the facts. You are free to believe whatever you wish to believe. I am however very glad you were brought back to the faith
Praetorian, your post has deeply saddened me. You might as well have trashed Wayne Weible and everything he believed in.
I am truly sorry I saddened you Julia I was not trashing Wayne at all. My sincere belief is that whether or not the apparition is true he will be rewarded for his fervent work in its promotion as he believed it to be true. It seems to me he was simply mistaken, but I in no way am saying anything bad about him as a person. To my knowledge he was a good and faithful Catholic. As I mentioned I used to read his books. I would never speak ill of him in any way. I'm sorry you felt I somehow was trashing him. I wasn't.
If one compares visionaries, one will find different levels of cognition to outside stimuli. Let's take for example, Bernadette Soubirous. Taken from the Lourdes Sanctuary website, the second apparition to Bernadette is described as follows: Sunday 14th. February: Holy Water Bernadette felt an inner force drawing her to the Grotto in spite of the fact that she was forbidden to go there by her parents. At her insistence, her mother allowed her; after the first decade of the Rosary, she saw the same lady appearing. She sprinkled holy water at her. The lady smiled and bent her head. When the Rosary ended she disappeared. Bernadette was not in a 'trance' so much that she was not be able to sprinkle the Immaculate Conception with Holy Water. Here is a description of the third apparition Thursday 18 th. February : the lady speaks For the first time, the Lady spoke. Bernadette held out a pen and paper asking her to write her name. She replied; "It is not necessary" and she added: "I do not promise to make you happy in this world but in the other. Would you be kind enough to come here for a fortnight?" Again, Bernadette was able to move her arms and offer the Immaculate Conception a pen and writing material...which presumably she would not be able to do if she were in a trance. Then there was the apparition where Bernadette was asked to dig in the dirt and eat bitter herbs. This caused onlookers to shake their heads and rule out the presence of the Blessed Virgin. Thursday 25th. February: The spring Three hundred people were present. Bernadette relates; "She told me to go, drink of the spring (….) I only found a little muddy water. At the fourth attempt I was able to drink. She also made me eat the bitter herbs that were found near the spring, and then the vision left and went away." In front of the crowd that was asking "Do you think that she is mad doing things like that?" she replied; "It is for sinners." My point in writing this is that not everything we see is easily explained. There are enough clergy that have spoken positively about the apparitions of Medjugorje and many signs, healings (spiritually, emotionally, and physically) that a person should consider living the messages. Have some people become a bad example?.....yes....sad, but true, but the focus is on living the messages.....prayer, fasting, reading Scripture, confessing monthly, and Mass as often as possible.
You are free to believe what you want to believe. As I mentioned in my earlier post the video was not even a large part of my discernment process though it is indeed troubling. I don't wish to debate it. I was simply answering Byron's question.
